Hello, my name is Mike Regan or @mikefx here in Instagram and I’ll be taking over the @potstarspopup account for the next couple days. I want to share a bit of my ceramics history and process… because it’s not the usual route, as far as I can tell! … I’ve worked in movie fx (creature and horror makeup) for about 35+ years. This includes a lot of sculpting and mold making. So when I decided to get into ceramics after years of thinking about it, it seemed like using some of my acquired skills in sculpture and mold making would come in handy. I think I joined a pottery studio for about 3 months, did a little wheel throwing before becoming frustrated with how long things were taking… yeah, impatience and pottery don’t work well together! Within 4 months I was doing pottery from home with a new wheel and kiln. I’d decided to explore hand sculpting intricate and highly detailed mug forms that I would mold and slipcast so that misfired pieces weren’t so detrimental to my progress. My Daruma mugs (inspired by Japanese Daruma Dolls) have become my sort of signature piece. … I’m looking forward to sharing more about myself and my process in the next couple days. Benny will be resting a lot and taking all the doggy naps he needs 🥹 He was diagnosed with IVDD on 8/22/23 and was hospitalized for the following 3 days thereafter! I had no idea what IVDD was, let alone know how to react to it or know what to ask or how to deal with it. Before that, he had lost a bit of his feeling in his hind legs and was walking wobbly and we didn’t know why and it was concerning! Benny is usually an active dog (outdoors) and loves to jump and run outdoors with his brother, Bruce, and when the Vet Dr told us that might’ve played the issue here, it broke my heart, cuz how was I supposed to know that a dog can’t DOG (run, jump, play, etc..) or else his spine might be in danger? 😭 This is all still new to me and I’ve been researching and trying to find items that’ll help him around the house, but Vet’s orders: Stay crate-bound and no jumping or running or walking!! He’s now on meds and just resting at home.
