If you have been following my posts, you know who Wesley is. For those who haven’t, I been working with Wes for over a year. From the first day I met him and his parents at Kinderland, it was a struggle. He wouldn’t let me touch his hair, let alone start his cut. A lot of appointments where they just left with no cut done and him crying really bad. His mom was even upset because it is actually really overwhelmed for parents too. When I opened my own studio, things somewhat got better, we were able to control the environment and give him all the time he needed to feel safe and not rushed. We got the cut done even tho we had to still hold him down. By the third visit, he did really good! The forth visit, even better! He sat in the car and allowed me to do his hair. Watching Blippi sink or float (his favorite) of course! Well, this visit, as you can tell by the pictures he sat perfect! Like when I say perfect I mean no tears, no fussing, no pushing me away, just absolutely perfect! I was blown away! He even let me do his bangs which I could NEVER do! All three of us were in shock and we all definitely were getting emotional. I know I was! To his his transition from crying and holding him down to sitting perfectly still in the car…is absolutely rewarding. My clients always come first to me and the overwhelming feeling I get when they make it through their haircut journey means the world to me. I am SOOOOOOO unbelievably proud of him. Summer is coming & school will be let out soon and that means fun hair! I been getting asked about color for girls. For the past few months, I’ve been trying to come up with an alternative way to do color services since I can’t use bleach due to my allergies and something that don’t require a shampoo bowl, since I don’t have one in the salon. I finally came up with a cleaner, non damaging, overall easier-for-kids way to provide bright vibrant color for both light and dark haired girls….hand dyed hair extensions! 😁 I will now be offering quick installing, easy removing and fully washable tape in hair extensions in a variety of fun colors (see last photo for options). Miss Kennedy is modeling the Mermaid Blue color and Miss Shay is modeling the Hot Pink color. I will be dying the extensions myself with a professional semi permanent hair color. These extensions are made of remy hair which is extremely close to human hair so you can do pretty much anything you would do to normal hair. The extensions themselves last up to 10 weeks and the color lasts up to 15 washes depending on how often you wash the hair. This service is not just limited to children, if mom wants a pop of color too, I can make that happen! These color appointments will require a non refundable 50% deposit since this is a specialized service. Each extension is $15. Removal appointments are free. I will also be offering one (1) complementary removal, redye, and reinstall. Any redye and reinstall after that will be $10. This service is available to book now through Vagaro. You will receive an invoice email from Square to pay the 50% deposit within 24 hours of booking. Some people often wonder why I take a little while with my haircuts. I’ll use Wesley as an example, mosy of you know by now I’m a huge Pokémon Go player well so are Wesley’s parents and Wes loves catching them. If I have to pull out my phone for him to play on my account, then that’s what I’m gonna do. And we have done this a few times during his haircuts but this specific haircut besides some normal fussing there was no screaming, kicking, dad holding him down, he sat in the car which he has never done here or at my last salon. I tried so hard not to get emotional because I didn’t want him to see I was “sad.” I was completely overwhelmed with proudness for him. And I know Wesley prob won’t be like this every time going forward and it may go back to the way it was his next cut and THATS OKAY but that’s part of the journey. Just this one haircut, he finally (after over a year) had enough trust in me so I could do his haircut. So all that being said, if playing with the child more than doing the haircut is what it takes for them do be comfortable, then that’s what I’m gonna do. Haircuts normally don’t take that long but trust comes first. I do what I do for these children that struggle with haircuts. Whether they are divergent or typical. We gave Vivi a cute bob! Her curls are just gorgeous! 😍 Did you know I offer a curly girl (or boy) cut? I start by dampening the hair and I use a micro fiber towel made specifically for curls. I then follow up with an Oleplex 09 treatment to moisture the curls. Most of the time I will defuse the curls with my deva defuser that looks like a big hand. This kind of defuser gets the roots dry as well. Then it’s time for the cut. Curl by curl. Curls are more of a visual haircut for me and because most children do not straighten or blow out their hair, it works. I have been using this method for 10+ years. I cut the curls dry because pulling out curls while wet causes shrinkage (hair stretches up to 50% of the length when wet) when dry so cutting curls dry (or slightly damp if child don’t like the blow dryer) will show exactly where they will fall. I then follow up with ouidad heat and humidity gel (which I loveeeeee) and give it a quick scrunch with the microfiber towel!
