What is Myotherapy? Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal conditions, which may cause muscular dysfunction and pain, thus affecting movement and mobility. Myotherapists utilise a range of treatment techniques to restore and maintain the normal integrity of the soft tissue structures (muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia). Trigger points within muscles are an example of muscle dysfunction that can cause deep aching pain, local tenderness, and referred pain, limiting strength and flexibility. Utilising palpation skills Myotherapists can identify trigger points and deactivate them using various soft tissue manipulation techniques. Muscular dysfunction can be caused by trauma, overload, or misuse of muscles arising from occupational, sporting, or recreational activities. What conditions can a Myotherapist treat? Myotherapists treat the cause as well as the symptoms of a wide range of conditions. Some examples of conditions commonly treated by Myotherapists are: *Neck & back pain *Headaches/Migraines *Sciatica *Chronic Overuse (RSI) *Tennis/Golfers elbow *Joint pain *Numbness and tingling *General tightness *Carpal Tunnel *Knee, hip & ankle pain *Frozen shoulder *Elbow & wrist pain Techniques used are soft tissue manipulation techniques, trigger point therapy, dry needling, deep tissue massage, hot and cold therapies, passive/active muscle stretching, electro-mechanical stimulation, and corrective or rehabilitative exercises. Cupping; what it is, how it works and how it can be used for treatment. Cupping usually involves using heat or suction to create a vacuum or low air pressure within a cup, which gently draws the skin upwards at the target area and is then left in place on the body for 5 to 15 minutes. The vacuum created by the cups causes movement of waste products from the injured area towards the surface of the skin, allowing for healing of the injured site to occur. Cupping is believed to be an effective method to assist in the treatment of pain, deep scar tissue, muscle knots and swelling. Myotherapists normally utilize cupping on softer tissues to allow for a better vacuum to be formed and therefore a more effective treatment. Cups may be used individually, collectively over a large area and/or in conjunction with other techniques such as dry needling. They may also be left in place or moved across the skin. There are a variety of tools, methods and procedures used commonly in cupping treatments: - Cups come in various shapes, including balls or bells and sizes, ranging from 1 to 3 inches (25 to 76mm) - Cups are most commonly made from glass or plastic - Heat through an open flame, or submersion in hot scented oils creates the vacuum in the cup as the air cools. Alternatively, suction, via a mechanical suction pump, can be used to create the vacuum on the skin. Cupping may often result in bruise like marks on the skin's surface. Please ensure that you remain hydrated before and after therapy as it can reduce the severity of these marks. Cupping is claimed to treat a broad range of medical conditions such as blood disorders (anaemia, haemophilia), rheumatic diseases (arthritic joint and muscular conditions), fertility and gynecological disorders, and skin problems (eczema, acne). There are also claims that cupping improves general physical and psychological well-being. #cupping #myotherapy #myotherapist #myotherapycheltenham #myotherapymentone #soremuscles #cheltenham3192 #health #wellness #wellbeing #humanmechanics #physicaleducation #cheltenham #mentone #mordialloc #moorabbin #parkdale #sandringham #highett #blackrock

This is the Fourth post for the What is question. This one is about Deep Tissue Massage. What is Deep Tissue Massage? Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). To book in for your deep tissue massage session. Here is the third post for the what is questions. It is about Swedish /relax massage What is Swedish Massage? Swedish Massage is a system of long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration and shaking motions that apply pressure between muscles and bones, rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. Swedish Massage feels good, is relaxing and invigorating. The main purpose of Swedish Massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Some other benefits include shortening recovery time from muscular strain, increased circulation without increased heart load, stretching of ligaments and tendons, skin stimulation and soothing of the nervous system. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested as part of a regular program for stress management. The sequence of techniques usually used in a session of Swedish Massage are: Effleurage: gliding strokes with the palms, thumbs and/or fingertips. Petrissage: kneading movements with the hands, thumbs and/or fingertips. Friction: circular pressures with the palms of hands, thumbs and/or fingertips. Vibration: oscillatory movements that shake or vibrate the body. Percussion: brisk hacking or tapping. Passive and Active Movements: bending and stretching. The patient is required to be appropriately unclothed for the treatments, which would usually be for an hour, although longer or shorter treatments are also possible. To book in for your Swedish /relax massage session. Here is the first one to the what is question. WHAT IS MYOTHERAPY? What is Myotherapy? Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal conditions, which may cause muscular dysfunction and pain thus affecting movement and mobility. Myotherapists utilise a range of treatment techniques to restore and maintain the normal integrity of the soft tissue structures (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia). Trigger points within muscles are an example of muscle dysfunction that can cause deep aching pain, local tenderness, referred pain limiting strength and flexibility. Utilising palpation skills Myotherapists can identify trigger points and deactivate them using various soft tissue manipulation techniques. Muscular dysfunction can be caused by trauma, overload or misuse of muscles arising from occupational, sporting or recreational activities. What conditions can a Myotherapist treat?: *Neck & back pain *Headaches/Migraines *Sciatica *Chronic Overuse (RSI) *Tennis/Golfers elbow *Joint pain*Numbness and tingling *General tightness *Carpal Tunnel *Knee, hip & ankle pain *Frozen shoulder *Elbow & wrist pain Techniques Soft tissue manipulation techniques, Trigger point therapy, dry needling, deep tissue massage, hot and cold therapies, passive/active muscle stretching, elector-mechanical stimulation and corrective or rehabilitative exercises.
