Dealing with the decline of my mother and the death of my step-father this year nearly brought me to my knees. It felt impossible to paint joyful paintings and I just didn't want to associate grief with my love of creating. So, I just waited it out. Most of the year was lost to making new work. I worked with him and he became my BEST dog ever. He has been to over a dozen states. He swam in the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Michigan. He walked around the 911 Memorial in PA. I called him Duke, my 'discount dog' because the rescue was offering him at 50% off. He was found as a stray when he was about 1 1/2 years old. He was sick and thin. Duke remained in the rescue for 18 months~~~leaving on three occasions, only to be brought back within a week. I was blessed when Duke came into my life. He was gentle with all my kitties, but groundhogs knew not to come into our yard. Duke went kayaking and hiking. He loved camping in a tent. In Memorium- Thomas A. Cobb, Sr. 7/28/23 - 8/11/2022 Proud WWII Veteran My Step-dad Those of you who know me well have heard this story before. But, for those who don't, here it is again, as it is an important part of my life story. After 40 years of marriage, my father, Frank B. Gregg, Jr. passed from cancer. My mother joined a bereavement group in New Smyrna Beach, Florida for support. There, she befriended and quickly fell in love with Tom Cobb, who had lost his wife, also to cancer. They planned to marry, but wanted each other to meet their children first. So, they drove to Pennsylvania, Ohio and Canada to get acquainted. When they got to Ohio, my sister, Kathy, her family and I took mom and Tom to a balloonathon. My nephew, Michael, was enjoying his new "grandpa" and was trying to keep up with him as we strolled over rolling fields to see the balloons. I took this shot with a very poor camera, but it became one of my, and my mom's, favorites. I wanted to memorialize this special moment and so created a finger painting, my largest at that time. He was thrilled with it and kept a print hanging next to "his chair" until the end of his life. Tom proudly served in WWII and flew many missions over Germany. He and my mom, Marge Cobb, shared 31 years together, and had more fun than I can even imagine. 
 I hope all of you can find love such as this and take encouragement from their story if you have lost a love. You never know what's over the next hill. I don’t often share my personal life on my art page, but these two have been my main priority in life for 10 years. They are finally safe, secure and together and I am thankful and relieved beyond measure. It's been a rough road this year, but they're finally back together at Hudson Grande! Many thanks to all family and friends that have helped and listened to my concerns non-stop for many years. Mom is 90 and Tom will turn 99 this Thursday. He is one of the last WWII Air Force Vets who flew many missions and barely made it back many times. Many thanks to Hudson Grande Senior Living @hudsongrandesl for their excellent care.
