I spent Friday making our sell out coffee sugar and salt body scrubs. These scrubs have converted users and are loved by many. I even had a customer buy 2 tubs in our first launch, then come back and buy a further 5 tubs in our second launch of pre-orders then come back again and buy my last tub 4 weeks later, it's that good! Our scrub is exfoliating you can definitely feel that scrub. There's nothing more shit when you've got a handful of scrub, your scrubbing away and it's not scrubbing. So what are bath bombs made of? Every recipe is different but the general consensus is that they're made up of sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, colour and fragrance. Then to improve the bath bomb there is bubbly stuff which is generally SCI, SCS, SLSA, BTMS or even milk powder the type the creator chooses is based on what they choose is best for their recipe and what they're aiming to achieve as some additives are quite controversial and/or don't perform as well as others. Further on again depending on the creator they can choose to add Kaolin clay or similar substitute I call it skin loving stuff, fillers such as corn starch and other ingredients based on again what they're trying to achieve such as magnesium sulfate or colloid oats. Oh and can't forget the oils (binders) and whether or not they decide to use polysorbate 80 or an equivalent. Essentially, poly 80 disperses oils and prevents your bath from staining. Our recipe: What we put in our bath bombs is no secret, it's all listed in the ingredients on every label to comply with regulations. Sodium bicarbonate makes up majority of the bath bomb, citric acid to make it fizz, SCS or SLSA to make it foam and are coconut 🥥 derived and are gentler on the skin, Kaolin clay because your skin loooooves it, fragrance oil to make it smell nice (could use essential oil, but there's a science to that), Grapeseed oil is our binder and a nut free alternative to sweet almond oil, polysorbate 80 to break down the oils and prevent staining and finally colourant which is usually displayed as CI??????, or pigment or mica etc. We've always been big on only having the essentials and not having fillers in our bath bombs like magnesium sulfate. Not only is there not physically enough in a bath bomb to actually do anything in terms of relieving sore and tired muscles, but it also attracts moisture and bath bombs are hard enough to make as it is! Moisture and humidity are a bath bomb makers downfall. But essentially, it's all down to the creator and what they want to achieve/works for them which determines how and what they make their bath bombs with it's like making a cake. Got questions? We’ve changed names, gone from made to order to pre-made, had sell out launches, had products I struggled to keep stock of, moved 3 times, been to markets, navigated short supplies and now we’re battling our hardest year yet 😣 There has been plenty of ups and downs, happy and sad but I’m glad I started this business 5 years ago. We had to raise our postage prices to align with Australia Post. Unfortunately with the situation we are in we are unable to cover the remaining cost of shipping 😭 and our shipping prices don’t incorporate the cost of the box etc. So we had to make the decision to raise our prices eg. from $5 for a small package to $9.30 (aust post price). Our bath bombs can not only be enjoyed by adults but children too. We use only gentle ingredients making the kids collection perfect for little one.
