Moments of Grace… On the light rail on the way to see my old friend, Mark Sassi, I noticed a young woman rocking out to her iPods, holding a a really yummy looking wrapped pastry in one hand. I was trying to find a polite way of telling her how cool her boots were when a little old lady walked past her and told her how good that pastry looked. She just held it out and gave it to the woman with a smile. Instead of mentioning the boots as I walked past , I just smiled and said “That was very kind of you “. She smiled at me and kept rocking out. As I moved to the escalator out of the tunnel, I was preceded by a family, grandfather, daughter, and granddaughter. They got on first. Youngest, middle, then eldest. Grandpa last. He had to be 80+. I noticed his unsteady walk and gave him lots of space as he boarded. As we rose , I was three steps behind him when I saw him lose balance and lean backwards. I managed to cover the distance and steady him in an instant with an “I’ve got you, sir “. April 26, 2024: Happy Birthday to me 🎂 2023: A Life Changing Year: As I look back at 2023, I am eternally grateful. I learned some of the harshest lessons when I committed my life to helping others. People I deeply idolized & respected, people I worked with, & people I loved who their masks fell off when it came to helping others. I‘d be lying if I say it didn’t affect me. It broke me. The lack of humanity I saw in humans. But it also also pushed me to grow in so many ways faster than I ever imagined. When things that should have not been be said, I responded with understanding & appreciation. When things that should have never been done were done, I responded with love & detachment. Since then, doors kept opening. Since then, I went from almost being homeless, losing my home & everything I own, to being able to keep a roof over my head. Since then, in 120 days, we reached over 35 Million people. Since then, Loves Operations grew into 3 companies and was featured on TV, offered sponsorships, & many opportunities. Since then, door after door kept opening - it feels so unreal. Here’s what I learned: Being kind is the most beautiful thing you can do Yet it is the hardest thing to consistently do because it takes work, humility, & rising above one’s ego to do so. It takes a special level of vulnerability to give back, unconditionally love, & deeply care for others regardless of how they treat you. & so, we deny, deflect, ignore, & run away instead of communicating because it’s easier to run away & avoid than confront things head on & grow. Last year, ppl’s inhumanity almost made me lose my light. I became like them, another suppressed robot to fit in and comply. But I refuse to live in a fake reality like that. I refuse to be a fraud. I’ll always be real ❤️ In the end, money, status, & all the shiny stuff aren’t what we take to our graves. It’s the love we have for one another and the impact we made on people that they will remember. This picture was taken 9️⃣ years ago and each year I repost it. Yes, it is a fun family photo (unintentionally sponsored by @titleist), but it is also the before and after for me. Our life before cancer. We took this photo and I remember thinking how wonderful life was. And it was wonderful. Now I look at it knowing cancer was growing inside my baby girl and in one month our world would be shattered. Life is funny that way. Events and diagnosis divide your world into a before and after photo. Each year the photo strikes me differently when it pops up on TimeHop. Some years anger, other times deep sadness, sometimes gratitude and every emotion in between. This year, I find myself looking at it with a certain peace. When your child is diagnosed with cancer, doctors tell you everything - occurrence, relapse rates, prognosis, but never mention the mental toll it will take not only on your child, but on you - the caregiver. The trauma of it all (and other hospitalizations) nearly wiped me out. I spent years paralyzed in my PTSD. On the outside, I looked like any other mom. While some people might say, “Move on. It’s been years.” I’m thankful to have people (and an amazing therapist) that have given me all the space and healing I needed along the way. Childhood cancer cuts you in unimaginable and unexpected ways. It haunts you. Today, I looked at this photo and felt proud of the work my girl and I have done to keep showing up with vulnerability, honesty and sometimes brokenness. Last month I was finally able to run and give back to pediatric cancer. I have found a certain peace in paying it forward and that was just the beginning. 💛💛💛💛

Did we just form the ultimate "one woman band"? From an epic gear girl hang and episode recording of The Nicki Sun Show to interviewing my baddie friends on #NABShowLIVE and then assisting them with their on-site cam, audio, BTS needs...it was a week of pure JOY and energy seeing what happens when you get three, multi-hyphenate, one woman bands together. Throughout the week at #NABShow , we all swapped hats producing, directing, hosting, editing, interviewing, introducing, and shooting for each other. It was one of those proud moments that made me step back and go, "Wow! There's more of us, finally!!!" Truth be told, upon entering a women's bathroom to a line (for once), I gleefully blurted out, "There's a LINE!!!" and clapped. That may have been weird in the moment, but when you've been in spaces mostly occupied by men, seeing a line got me excited. It made me feel a little less alone. Being able to surround yourself with fellow women, especially in this industry, who want to empower and constantly uplift their communities is a true gift, and I hope it's something that everyone can experience or aspire to pay it forward in their lifetime. My pay it forward moment-I don’t know the adorable honeymooners 👩🏻❤️👨🏼from the UK that we invited to sit next to us at the Giants v. Mets game. ⚾️🏟️🧢 A happy client gave me his 4 season tickets and no one I invited could break away for this day game. So when we got to the ballpark we walked up to the people in line to buy tickets and offered to share our 2 unused tickets with them, and all the perks of being at club level. It was once we are seated & started chatting that we found out they were here on their honeymoon, and it was her first visit to the States. Not only were we able to give them recommendations for favorite spots in San Francisco, but their next stop was Monterrey where my husband was going the next day for his annual guys golf weekend, so he was able to direct them to an amazing piano 🎹 bar that is loads of fun. We had our inaugural communal dining experience at Gigi Mangia's restaurant in Palermo, a concept familiar to 8th Street Pizza! The highlight was Timballone al Ragu, a uniquely prepared lasagna with a magnificent presentation. A decadent Cannoli Cake completed the evening on a high note, with a perfect sponge cake and an even sweeter than our cannoli filling. We started the evening with a selection of red and white wines, paired with a sampler of eggplant, tomato, and green olives capriccio, a chunk of fresh Parmesan cheese, and a croquette each of rice with pancetta and cheese with potato. It was a memorable conclusion indeed! 🥖🧀 Our lunch today was Sicilian Pizza from Genio E Farina and it was tender and crispy, cooked to perfection only by the perfect time, temperature and oven. This was meant to be a throw off, but it surprised us!! 🍕🤌🏻 As for our operating hours this week (4/22 - 4/27), we are open from 11AM to 8PM from Monday to Thursday, and from 11AM to 9PM on Friday and Saturday. Please note, we are closed on Sundays. The same schedule will apply next week, however, we will be closed on both Sunday and Monday.
