I’ve met Mike Rowe twice (Discovery Channel’s “Dirty Jobs” and TBN’s “The Story Behind the Story”) or, better phrased, our lives have intersected in different cities. And that first chance encounter may have led to my acting career. But I’m getting ahead of myself. The story inauspiciously starts in May 2013, when I spotted the multi-talented writer and host at the Palace Cafe in New Orleans. He obliged my request for a photograph. He laughed when I blurted out, “Heck, if you’re here, this place must be dirty!” Before parting, I mentioned that I was frequently mistaken for RDJ to which he replied I should do something with that. Fast forward, in May 2022, I starred in Season 1, Episode 8 of “The Story Behind the Story” where I played the famed director Frank Capra. To my knowledge, Mike was not involved in my casting and you can hardly blame him if he didn’t recall a brief fan interaction ten years prior. Back to the story. We filmed in various locations in Sapulpa, Tulsa (Harwelden Mansion), and Guthrie, Oklahoma. In Guthrie, we re-enacted the concluding scene in “It’s A Wonderful Life” (1946) with faux Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed as I - err, I mean Frank Capra - directed them. We did this at 3am with fake snow blowing all around us and large bright lights turning the thick of night into daytime. It was an incredible experience made better by the amazingly kind and talented crew and cast. Big thanks to producer Micah Barnard, director Jonathan Coussens and, of course, Mike Rowe, who may have started my path in acting with a chance encounter almost 10 years to the day before my role in his show. Cue eerie music. And now you know the rest of the story - rewind, that’s the late great Paul Harvey - and now you know the Story Behind the Story. How I came to be an Oklahoman. This is a photo of my Great-great Grandparents Vinton Isaac Goff (1844-1912) and his bride Sarah Ellen Daniels. They brought their family and participated in the Oklahoma Territory Land Run opening the Cheyenne-Arapaho Reservation to settlement on April 19th 1892. They laid claim to 160 acres of land in what eventually become known as Butler in Custer county Oklahoma. Vinton had fought in the Civil War for the Union Army West Virginia 4th Infantry Company D. He was wounded at the Battle of Vicksburg. Later in life he would become ordained as a Methodist minister in 1895 South McAlester Oklahoma Indian Territory. They where residents in Guthrie Oklahoma on Nov. 16th 1907 when Oklahoma became the 46th state. Guthrie would later be recognized as the first State Capitol of Oklahoma. “Visual storytelling involves the use of graphics, images, pictures, and videos to engage with viewers in an effort to drive emotions, engage intercommunication, and motivate an audience to action,” according to Eric Goodstadt (President of Manifest) and Sacha Reeb (Chief Creative Officer at The Content Marketing Agency). “It is critical for you to start at the end of the experience and work your way back versus starting at the beginning,” Eric says. “What is it that you want the audience member to do after the experience?
