Second shooters are completely optional in my wedding packages. I want my couples to be able to build their package specifically for their needs and priorities. That being said though, there are times when a second shooter is well worth the investment! 1. Compressed Timelines - If you will only have access to your venue for fewer than eight hours, you may need to double up on things and schedule bride prep filming the same time that groom prep is going on, for example. 2. If Ceremony/Reception Decorating Happens Later in the Wedding Day - I like to shoot the ceremony and reception details as early as possible - ideally while bride and groom prep is going on. Things get busy once the bride gets into her dress and usually don’t slow down until the end of the day. So if setup is happening late in the wedding day, I can send my second shooter to grab B-Roll shots of the venue while I’m working on A-Roll footage. 3. Drone Footage is a Priority - If drone footage is a high priority for you, having a second shooter can allow me to get more of it for your film! I typically try to fly at the very beginning of the day no matter what. If I have a second shooter with me though, that frees me up to take the drone back out later in the day for some gorgeous sunset and nighttime shooting! 4. You’re Ordering a FOMO Edit (of all the footage) - If you’re paying for a FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) Edit, and will be getting ALL of the footage from your wedding day, having a second shooter will just ensure that you get that much more behind the scenes footage of your big day! We were able to share a meal together while we talked through her plans for the big day, from start to finish. Here are a few things I like to ask, to help me understand your vision for your wedding film: 1. What type of music do you all like - and also what type of music can you absolutely not stand? 2. Which of my previous wedding films were you particularly drawn to? What was it about them that you loved? 3. Who are the VIP’s on your wedding day? (We want to make sure to include lots of footage of them in the final edit!) 4. Do you envision anything specific for your final film? For example: - Do you love a hype intro segment with lots of fast cuts from the reception? - Do you want to include some of your own clips from early in your relationship? - Do you love a particular type of shot and want more of that included in the final edit (like drone shots, vintage footage, etc.)? 1. Have you seen/do you have any fun ideas that you want to try? I’m always up for trying new things, so if you have ideas, let’s talk and figure out how to make them happen! The more I can understand your vision, the happier you will be with the final product - and since your wedding film is something you will keep forever and show your kids and grandkids one day, we want it to be everything you dreamed it would be!

In 2024 one of my goals has been to really try to protect Sunday as a day of rest and spending time with family (and, honestly recovering from Saturday weddings 😂). I like to spend the day reading, napping, playing with our new puppy, and working on fun creative projects (right now my project is transferring our old VHS tapes to digital). What activities do you have on the schedule this weekend?
Struggling with your wedding day timeline? There are a few things you can do to give yourself more time! 1. Strongly consider doing a first look. A first look allows all the bride/groom, family, and wedding party photos to be taken before the ceremony when everyone is still looking fresh! It also means that after the ceremony, you’ll only need to do a few quick extended family shots, and then you can enjoy your reception. 2. Take advantage of relaxed time at your reception to sneak away for some sunset photos! We can look up exactly when magic hour will be in advance, and add a quick ten-minute sunset shoot with the bride and groom! 3. Combine photography and videography shoot times. In my opinion, it works best on a wedding day when the photographer and videographer are working hand-in-hand. Instead of having to block off extra time and do the same poses twice, an experienced team can work together like clockwork, posing, taking photographs, getting a quick video of the shot, then moving on to the next pose!

Want a zero-dollar way to make your wedding film SO much better? Start capturing video now. Especially if you’re a 2025 bride – or even if you’re not engaged yet! Video clips from your relationship, from any travelling you do, or any clips that show the changes of seasons (Fall, Christmas, Summer activities, etc.) are like gold to me. It tells your story, but it’s footage I don’t have access to when I’m only shooting with you for one weekend. In your wedding film, we want to tell your love story, from start to finish! And while we’ll still dedicate the majority of your film to your actual wedding day footage, having a few seconds of old footage to add in will just make your film that much richer and more meaningful. So here are a few pointers for collecting that footage! 1. I know it’s unpopular, but shoot horizontally. Even if you want to shoot vertically for TikTok or stories, just take a few seconds after you get the shot and turn the camera sideways to grab a quick horizontal shot. 2. Take videos in 3-5 second clips. 3. Add a little movement! You can push in, pan slowly from side to side, or just make sure you all are moving within the clip. 4. Zoom out and show details that give the clip context. (If it’s Christmas, show yourselves with the tree. If it’s Fall, make sure to get the colored leaves in the shot with you.) This will help show the passage of time and make your final film feel like more of a story that has a beginning, middle, and end!
For engagement sessions I find it helps for couples to choose between one of these four options: 1. Sentimental Session - For this one, you all choose a location that is special to you as a couple. It could be where you went on your first date, a place you love to visit, or any other location that is meaningful to the two of you! 2. Adventure Session - On adventure sessions, you all choose an activity and I come along to photograph it! You could go to a county fair together, go hiking, do some fly fishing, or anything else that sounds adventurous and entertaining! 3. Studio Session - This one is just what it sounds like. :) We rent out a studio space for an hour and do your engagement session indoors, in beautiful lighting with clean, high-key backgrounds. Studio sessions are perfect if you’re doing your session in the winter, if you have multiple outfit changes, or if you just want a really clean, polished look. 4. Cozy Session - The fourth option is the cozy session. If you're happiest just having a night in and spending time together, we can do an in-home session, or just a quieter session at a favorite park. For cozy sessions we'll focus more on details, close-ups, and the connection you all have with each other. Each couple is unique, and each engagement session should be too. Choosing an option that matches your personalities will help ensure you both feel comfortable and are genuinely having a good time during your session! I LOVE personalized vows during the ceremony for wedding films. 😍 But if you're like me and can't get through personalized vows without tearing up (I had to hand mine to the pastor so he could finish reading them for me, lol) there are lots of other options to get great audio clips for your wedding film! 1. You could write letters to each other and read them before the ceremony. 2. (This is one of my favorites.) We can do separate interviews with each person prior to the wedding, asking what they love most about the other person, and learning more about your story. 3. Officiant audio - This works especially well if the officiant is someone that knows the couple really well and can tell a couple of personal stories. 4. Wedding speeches - These are an amazing source of audio too, especially since the speeches are coming from someone that knows your story well. The more personalized audio we have to add to your film, the more meaningful it will be. I hate the idea of ever potentially losing any images or clips from a wedding day. To make sure that doesn't happen, I have plans in place to back up the backup copies of my backups. :)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We typically start with using two photographers on a wedding day to make sure we don't miss anything, and get plenty of coverage from multiple angles of each event. As often as we can, we try to make sure that each image we take is simultaneously being written to two cards in camera (an SD card and a CF card). My second shooter and I keep all used cards physically on our person throughout the day, so there is no risk of them disappearing in a lost bag somewhere. When I get home - or sometimes even during the reception - we begin the process of backing everything up to my laptop. Once the files are on the laptop, I upload them to the cloud and make a separate copy of them to a second, external hard drive. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ By the time we're all done, we have four copies saved in four different places, of each image. I typically will not delete any of the backups until the final edit has been completed and the gallery has been delivered. It may sound like a little bit of overkill, but we take this responsibility very seriously, and we haven't lost an image yet!
What if it rains? The gear we shoot with – although I’ve only been brave enough to test this a couple times, lol – is water resistant, which means we can shoot in the rain without worrying about damage to our gear. However, we do have a full set of ponchos and umbrellas for us and our gear ready to go at every wedding! What is the most important part of your wedding day? For me it was the photography, but whatever it is for you, it’s good to prioritize the different elements (photo, floral, reception meal, etc.) early on. Having a filter to pass your 100 wedding planning decisions through will make the process so much easier! Ricky and I eloped, so for me the photographs of the day were my highest priority. I picked a beautiful cabin in the woods, next to a river, so we didn’t have to rent a venue, bought a couple bouquets at Wal-Mart the day before, then discarded some flowers and rearranged the others to make my bridal bouquet. The day of our ceremony we had a Spotify playlist for a DJ, and Ricky’s childhood best friend as our officiant, and it was perfect. I know such a simple setup is not the best fit for everyone, but I would encourage you, if you’re in the planning process now, to take a few minutes and pick out your top one or two priorities. Having a clear vision will help guide you through your planning and make sure you arrive at a wedding day that’s perfectly designed for you!

Let me introduce myself … because it’s been a while since I have! My name is Danielle, and I do wedding photography and video. Two years ago I quit my day job so I could transition to doing photography/video full-time, and I love it! I am obsessed with planners, office supplies, and spreadsheets. I can probably tell you exactly what I was doing at 2:00 pm this day last year, and what I plan to be doing at 2:00 pm a month from now. I love cut flower gardening, chips and queso, Tolkien, and Star Trek. Wedding Day Surprises! If you or anyone in your wedding party is planning any type of surprise for your wedding day, we would love to know so we can be prepared to capture it! :) Whether it's a flash mob, a groom kidnapping, a surprise gift from a grandmother, or anything else that's not on a normal wedding day schedule (prep, ceremony, rings, kiss, grand entrance, bouquet toss, etc.), we want to know about it! Our job is to document your day, so if we know about surprises in advance, we can make sure we're in the right place, with the right lens, and the right lighting setup to capture it perfectly! And we're really good secret keepers. We promise we won't tell!
One of my favorite things to do during a Story Session is interview couples separately - so they don't hear what the other one said until they see the final edit. "Who liked who first?" is always a fun question to ask, lol. You usually get pretty entertaining stories with that one. 😂
One of the most important things to look for when you’re trying to find a wedding videographer is a personality that meshes well with yours. Your photographer and videographer will be with you more than anyone else on your wedding day, so make sure you get someone you like as a person, and would enjoy spending the day with! Thank you Kylr, who asked to beat the hack out of studio’s sofa with the pillow to get truly angry for the scene! Aging is a disease. Its effects can be ameliorated through a consistent regimen of physical exercise complimented with mental stimulation and emotional balance. I am 57 years old in these untouched photographs taken in 2019. Pure, steady exercise. No supplements. For me, a steady dose of daily boxing training with some hot yoga now and then. Speaking of now, beset by minor physical and emotional setbacks, I fell short of the goal to be the very best version I could achieve this past year. Now resolved, I’m back on track. I am not too far from these photographs but that’s the beauty of fitness, limitless goals. The lesson: We all experience pain, either the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.
