Sometimes people have a hidden agenda, and other times people says exactly what they are, but everyone is able to rationalize or create their own reality. “It’s Not A Cult” by @laurendanhofwrites was a fantastic look at a dark culture of belonging with plenty of snark. I loved the way Glinda reacts to the developments in the story, revealing a character that is very much defective in how she deals with her relationships yet endeavours to try protecting people at the same time. This is very much a story centered around family, the ones that are by blood and the ones that are chosen (well or poorly). The theme of fantasy and detachment from reality was thoughtfully explored, in how it relates to people with trauma. Glinda and all her sisters are named after characters from the Wizard of Oz universe, making Arlon the cult master Glinda’s wicked witch that she wishes to defeat. This combined with many other small details provided an almost meta narrative about how people fall under a spell. The War of the Roses A married couple tries everything to drive each other out of the house in a vicious divorce battle. Starring - Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, Danny Devito, Marienne Sägebrecht, Sean Astin, Heather Fairfield. This was a recommendation from @randigoldberg2 Honestly i had a lot of fun with this one. I definitely never expected it to go in the direction it went with how it began. It flitted between Romance to Comedy to Action and Thriller. But mostly it was just really entertaining to watch. The story revolves around a married couple Oliver (Douglas) and Barbara (Turner). This is told via a Divorce lawyer (Devito) who explains their story and the issues they had. When you hear the premise you don't think it sounds fun, but the way the movie shows it makes it so. As we see these two people both refusing to move out so it turns into a hilariously psychological game of wills, who can drive the other insane first. But alongside the fun of the film it definitely touches on some elements that are true of a relationship and how they require constant maintainance. As you can't neglect a relationship then expect everything to be fine when you feel like it. It also highlights that vindictive nature of humans as when it comes time to divide assets in divorce so much is out of spite rather than what is right. Honestly for me i was on Barbara's side as she seemed the more reasonable. I have to mention the wild scenes in the film though including a foot scene that, lets just say Tarantino would be proud of!. Also the swinging from the chandelier scene was insane too. It was such a entertaining film!. Standouts - Kathleen and Michael were good in their roles and had decent chemistry i felt, it made the scenes where they showed hatred too hit a little harder because of it. Bottom line, a really entertaining film, potentially a cautionary tale against getting married!. But in all seriousness the movie was a fun watch and i recommend giving it a watch!.
