Last night, The Newport Fire Protection District responded to N Mill Creek Rd & Cermak Ave for a house fire. When the fire engine arrived on the scene, they found a fully involved abandoned house and decided just to let the house burn due to it being scheduled for demolition. The chief of Newport, who owns a trucking business nearby, went to his business and used his backhoe to knock down the house walls and foundation. Our snapdragon season is the best I’ve seen in years. If you’re wondering why your snaps have stayed so short, wilting and dying you may want to check your soil and it’s fertility! This section here in pic #2 has been producing consistently for two months now, harvesting twice a week. For the past few years while I was growing on land in Grayslake where the soil was severely rough and to top that I found that it had rust spores that killed my snaps no matter what organic method I tried. I worked closely with Dave from @gro.n.sell and the fine folks at Arbico Organics and Brian from Plant Disease Diagnostics Clinic in Wisconsin. With such an amazing team by my side trying to understand this complex disease I have learned a lot. Knowing that rust spores do not go away it was a dead end for snaps and other plants. So I am so very thankful to grow on healthy soil and have this crop back in my life. AND their scent is so darn calming and beautiful!!!
