On the left is the entrance to the old police station yard: the police station was originally based in the Town Hall, and in 1861 there was a lock-up for minor offenders and accommodation for a police sergeant. The old police station was built in 1938 in โFeatherbed Fieldโ, with the yard and parking in front of it and 4 police houses behind it, and this was replaced by the current building. The phone box (highlighted in red) is preserved in the same spot and is now โthe worldโs smallest discoโ raising money for the Mayorโs charity! Knowle House is still prominent on the left, but this pre-dates Knowle House Close. We think early 1970s as it looks as if there is one-way traffic. The Contemporary British Printmakers exhibition @delamoreart opened on Sunday, and I was lucky enough to attend along with the other exhibitors + ๐ฏ's of other guests. I posted about the outdoor sculpture element of the show yesterday, but I'm concentrating here on more familiar ground, & the wonderful array of prints in the Carriage Room, opposite the @swacart exhibition in the Stables Gallery. @artizangallery have curated the space beautifully, and I've got some of my favourites included here. โฌ๏ธ๐ผโฌ๏ธ๐ผ 1. Upfront I must showcase this brand new stunning, experimental linocut on perspex by Ian Cox...'Autumn Willows'. 2. I'm most fortunate to have four of my Tree Portraits series of monoprints hung here, with two of Ian Cox's other works *Do excuse the mugshot ๐ 3. My gelliprint 'Cima Dome Fire XII' is situated below 'Mystical Wistman's Wood' by Kevin Wright, which also appeared at the RA Summer Show two years ago. 4. Ian is also debuting his new mezzotint, โBellever, Dartmoorโ. 5. Four of Graham Black's amazing screenprints, inspired by a rich history of Cornish abstraction 6. An exquisite pair of etchings, 'Hidden Valley Day' & 'Hidden Valley Night', both by Jenny Pery 7. Dorothy Hannah's brilliant Monos - 'Duality III' & 'Lunula ll' 8. 'Stasis II' & 'Crowns' by Sue Potter. Incredible combinations of print, embossing & papercutting. 9. Another dive into the Old Bakehouse archives and weโve unearthed this amazing photograph of a little girl in the shop front doorway of the building when it was still a bakery. A little research reveals it to be Grace, granddaughter of the shop owner John Gover. We think the photo was taken in the 1920s. We donโt know if the dog is the family pet!
