The League of Gentlemen Royston Vasey Mon Armour We're Not Going Down Without A Fight Events come to a head in this third & final of the anniversary specials, but while it is definitely better than the second episode, it suffers from being exceptionally rushed as it tries to pull off far too much within it's limited half hour No more is the time limit felt than in Val & the twins plan for Benjamin, the whole affair unfolds, escalates & gets resolved far too rapidly but does at least end with a really sweet moment at the station between Benjamin & Val about moving forward After what his former bandmates did to him, it's understandable Les McQueen would be sceptical of an opportunity so I love how he turns down the chance of success when it's offered, before realising it's all on the level & so goes for it One of the elements that doesn't go anywhere is the inclusion of Charlie & Stella, both now seeing other men but neither of them happy, it's a great re-introduction as it shows that despite their arguments & separation, they still love each other, unfortunately the scene stops dead without a proper resolution One of the things that really doesn't make sense is that while pretty much everything set up gets paid off in some way, there is absolutely no mention, resolution or even consequences to the Geoff situation & what happened to Pauline As I said before, the character of "Pop" is one of the worst & including him undoubtedly took away precious time from more important things, thankfully he finally gets his comeuppance after pushing Olives & Picnic Bars too far into places they don't belong The Tubbs & Edward situation reaches its climax with a fab bookend to "We didn't burn him" but in doing so, shows how pointless the whole hostage element was, all that was needed was Tubbs' horrific declaration to the crowd as their latest victims were found Once they go on the run & are separated however, it nicely ties into the boundary line issue & finally reveals what Bernice had to do in order to be released from Papa Lazarou's clutches - just as the man himself steps out of the shadows to reveal his latest dark secret beneath Royston Vasey #TheLeagueOfGentlemen

My love and appreciation for all things dark and macabre stems from one place, and that is the outstanding surreal British TV comedy 'The League of Gentlemen'. This is a TV show I discovered from a very young age and can only imagine that the majority of gags and dark humour went mostly unnoticed for me at that age. However, since that very first late night of accidentally Channel flicking on to something so weird and wonderful, I have been a dedicated fan of the work and careers of Reece Shearsmith, Steve Pemberton, Mark Gattis and Jeremy Dyson. The League Of Gentlemen Destination: Royston Vasey Ladies & Gentlemen, Mesdames et Messieurs, Damen und Herren, the second series of The League of Gentlemen steps up to the plate in style by opening at night instead of the usual day & with a very excellent nod to Sleepy Hollow as a mysterious horse & carriage crosses the moors Any talk of & indeed plans for the New Road appear to have ceased but a new danger isn't far away & undoubtedly makes its presence known by the episode's climax as all the spectators in the circus tent are befallen by nosebleeds. In terms of new characters, the main standout is Reece Shearsmith's Papa Lazarou, who rides into Royston Vasey with his travelling circus in search of Dave, a wife or two & to put on a show for one & all, including a hilarious pseudo psychic stage act that lands him another wife, love the moment she walks away as he's taking a bow only to be spotted & taken away, unfortunately the rest of the town of Royston Vasey isn't exactly the audience he or his carnival folk expected Along with Papa Lazarou is one of the simplest but best disguises in the entire League series as his "Mama" is played by Mark Gatiss, despite only having a scarf over his head & hunched slightly, you cannot tell it's him until he removes it & speaks to warn Papa's next target Once established, there's a great moment of Barbara arriving with news of complications during her surgery & wanting to join to escape, but ending up being turned away & fighting with a bearded lady Elsewhere, Pauline attempts to start afresh but is thwarted by her replacement while Tubbs is settled back with Edward. Val meanwhile is getting depressed without Benjamin around & the twins aren't exactly helping by displaying some spot on psychic abilities & conveniently appearing from nowhere but hope arrives in the form of Harvey's latest Toad delivery, able to grant wishes which she takes great advantage of (love the moment she casually tosses it aside after making her wish) but once a knocking on the door begins, she might just regret it. #TheLeagueOfGentlemen #RoystonVasey #PapaLazarou #ReeceShearsmith #StevePemberton #MarkGatiss #JeremyDyson #Horror #BlackComedy
