Today was a slow day, we slept in a little, went for breakfast to our local cafe Le Flores the omelette and coffee was amazing the service incredible. We have a public holiday here today so it was the perfect slow day, we popped over to a little flea market found a couple of treasures. Come back to the apartment with a baguette to make some lunch, had an afternoon nap. Which was much appreciated as I have picked up a cold. People really need to learn to cover their mouths when sneezing! Skimming through the streets of Paris on the open air top deck of a double decker bus is such a fantastic way to see the city sights easily. The bus came with the all-important hop-on, hop-off option. You can hop off at a famous landmark, tour about a bit, then hop back on another bus and keep going. Yes, it's very touristy but it's such a great way to see the city when you only have a few days to visit. We're lucky it was a pretty decent, sunny day, especially since this was in October. Admittedly, there was a cool breeze up there in the open air, but it was worth putting up with the chill in order to get an unobstructed view. We saw so many great landmarks: the beautiful Madeleine Church, the valiant Notre Dame, the Obelisk of Luxor at Place de la Concorde, the Assemblee Nationale, and the beautiful carousel by the Eiffel Tower. Plus so many other great spots! Too many to list. Sometimes the bus got stuck in traffic for a bit or stopped at a red-light, but often this was a wonderful opportunity since we were stopped somewhere with an amazing view. These first pics show the breathtaking Pont Alexandre III bridge, the loveliest bridge in Paris, with the Grand Palais exhibition hall behind it. Day 4 last morning in Rome, took a 10.00 am flight to Paris and checked into our gorgeous little apartment for the next 12 days. Rome was beautiful, we didn’t get to do half the things we wanted to. But really enjoyed our time there. On our way back from dinner we walked right into a protest. The French really love to protest and I’m all for it, as long as people or property doesn’t get damaged. A very charming landmark in Montmartre. This exquisitely pink, adorable restaurant, artistically perched on a corner, is a favourite spot for paintings and photos. It was right beside our location for the lively Wine Festival parade, and I was thrilled to grab some photos. Not quite great timing, though, since the streets were crowded with parade-goers. After the parade we visited Sacre Coeur, looked at some quaint shops on twisty Montmartre streets and bought a painting of Paris from an artist at the vibrant Place du Tertre. A very touristy thing to do, but our little painting is a wonderful memento of our time in Paris. I wish today been as wonderful as this day! Today I very suddenly started feeling lightheaded, faint and feverish, with sharp abdominal pains. Lying down didn't help, so out of caution I ended up going to the hospital. I had some tests but they weren't really sure what was causing it. I'm feeling better now, but not 100%. Hopefully it's nothing serious. A practically perfect day in Paris. A great day for exploring picturesque Montmartre. I love this charming, winding street behind me, with its glimpse of the majestic Sacre Coeur in the background. We planned to find this particular street and we snagged a couple of posts to sit on. We were there in time to see the annual Wine Festival parade. The Wine Festival lasts a few days and features food and wine booths clustered about Sacre Coeur. The Saturday parade features bands, performers and representatives from wineries around France. Coincidentally, we saw this parade a few years earlier, just by luck. When I found out we were returning to Paris, I checked the calendar and it was Wine Festival weekend again, lol! The parade was so lively, fun and very French! It was such a treat to be part of these joyful festivities. I loved the spot where we watched the parade, right across from a mysterious ivy-covered Parisian mansion with stone eagle-topped gates. Just the kind of mysterious house to be featured in an intriguing novel set in Paris. I loved it all! I wasn't quite sure if my Halloween dress was quite right for Paris, but it was October and I wanted to wear this favourite dress during Halloween season. I got many compliments, so it was a good dress to wear in Paris after all! The Halloween print with cats, pumpkins and magic brews and potions is super-cute. A cute dress and a glorious day in Paris. The view from our hotel in Paris. Our hotel right on Rue de Abbesses was in a fantastic location. Right in the heart of charming Montmartre, with shops, cafés, bakeries and pretty sidestreets everywhere. It was fun being part of this lively neighbourhood, even just for a few days. We had stayed in this neighbourhood a few years earlier, and it was wonderful to return. Our hotel is in the third photo (the blurry one). This isn't the hotel we stayed at last time. We had tried to get a room at the same one, but nothing was available. This one was just a block away, so the same amazing neighbourhood. Admittedly, this hotel wasn't quite as nice as our previous one. Our room was tiny (but comfortable). The bathroom was even tinier. Honestly, it looks bigger in the photo! In reality it was very narrow and it was hard to even get to the tiny shower. Our room was kind of plain. But the views from our window were wonderful! I loved seeing so much Parisian charm right from our window. And all the restaurants we ate it in this neighbourhood were delightful. So many good meals!
