Elle l'a invitée à se dévêtir, avec douceur, et toute sa confiance. Karine lui dévoile son premier secret. Ce tatouage qu'on ne peut pas deviner d'elle habillée. Ce tatouage, elle l'a fait graver d'une encre éternelle, en hommage aux victimes des attentats du Bataclan. Premier électrochoc. Puis l'on devine ce creux que l'on discerne à peine, celui d'une tumorectomie. Ce cancer invisible qui lui a fait ressentir un sentiment d'imposture. Elle n'a pas perdu ses cheveux ni ses cils, elle a gardé son sein. Pourtant le cancer était bien présent. Deuxième électrochoc. Derrière ce sourire qu'elle affiche chaque jour, il y a pourtant ce regard qui cache les secrets que Valérie a su capter. Celui de la peur au quotidien, pendant de trop longues années. Des cris. Des mauvais mots. Des mauvais gestes. Grâce aux électrochocs elle a quitté la peur. En te portant mon premier coup, le jour de mes 30 ans, j’ai lancé les hostilités. À chaque coup que je t’ai porté, j’ai espéré. J’ai souvent revêtu mes plus belles couleurs pour te faire peur et pour ne pas te laisser le privilège de décider. Ce rire si présent, si plein de vie fait oublier ce qu’elle endure : chimios, mastectomie bilatérale, radiothérapie. Reconstruction de la poitrine, un sein qui ne cicatrise pas. « Un sein c’est mieux que rien ? » « Non, ras le bol des médecins, des hôpitaux, et je préfère les choses symétriques ! » Six mois après l’ablation des deux seins, nous sommes en voiture en Bretagne. Nous traversons cette forêt. Je freine. Elle ne voulait pas encore montrer son torse plat. J’insiste, elle me fait confiance, enlève son t-shirt. Ce cliché prend deux minutes. À ce moment-là mon regard de photographe est accroché par son sourire lumineux, qui rend invisibles ses douloureuses cicatrices. Je photographie son courage, son âme, son émotion. Je ne crois pas avoir vraiment regardé son torse plat. D’ailleurs je ne le vois toujours pas, pourtant rien n'est caché. Nous avons fait cette prise de vue qui a duré deux heures dans un appartement vide et froid. J'étais comme « protégé » par mon boitier qui servait de rempart à l'émotion intense qui régnait. J'ai choisi cette photo qui m'a le plus marquée : elle venait de retirer son foulard et découvrait sa tête. Je me souviens de ces moments forts, de ses larmes, de sa peur. J'ai sélectionné une quarantaine de photos, toutes plus fortes que les autres. À la fin de la prise de vue, nous avons parlé, je lui ai dit tout le bien que je pensais d'elle, de sa force et son courage. Revenu dans mon véhicule, j'ai pu libérer mon émotion, seul... Je photographie les « gens » depuis plus de cinquante ans et cette expérience restera gravée en moi à jamais. LES MOTS ONT DES YEUX | 2024 [FR] - Les Mots ont des Yeux est un travail portant sur les conflits familiaux et les relations entre femmes sur trois générations. L’oeuvre contribue au dialogue sur les enjeux sociaux liés aux traumas féminins, mettant ainsi en lumière l’importance de briser le cycle du silence et de créer un espace où les femmes peuvent partager leurs histoires. Cette autofiction s’incarne dans un récit ancré à la fois dans le réel et dans l’imaginaire émotionnel de l’enfance. Le cynisme et l’imagerie mentale du texte fustigent les rapports entre adultes et enfants, et les violences perpétrées par les femmes entre elles. Une relation mère/fille sur trois générations, où la figure paternelle n’est qu’un facteur de conflit, d’insécurité, une tasse sale... L’œuvre prend à la fois une forme littéraire, mais aussi photographique, puisqu’elle se matérialise en un accrochage artistique mêlant autoportraits, archives familiales et dessins au stylo bille. Le médium de l’écriture et celui de la photographe interagissent ensemble ; le texte prend le statut d’image sur le mur, tandis que l’image devient mot à l’intérieur du livre. LES MOTS ONT DES YEUX | 2024 [EN] - Words have Eyes is a work about family conflicts and relationships between women over three generations. The work contributes to the dialogue on social issues related to women’s trauma, highlighting the importance of breaking the cycle of silence and creating a space where women can share their stories. This autofiction is incarnated by a tale rooted in the real and the emotional imagination of childhood. The cynical mental imagery of the text denounces the relationship between adults and children, and the violence carried out by women against each other. A mother/daughter relationship across three generations, where the father figure is nothing more than a factor of conflict, insecurity, a dirty mug... The work simultaneously takes a literary and photographic form, materializing as an artistic installation of self-portraits, family archives and pen drawings. The medium of writing and the photographers interact ; the text takes the status of an image on the wall, and the images becomes words inside the book. Nonostante la prematura scomparsa, questo volume custodisce numerosi scatti della fotografa romana, i suoi molteplici ritratti dell’Italia e dei suoi paesaggi, i suoi volti, le sue spiagge e i suoi vicoli. Už jsi někdy slyšel o opuštěných kolejích v Paříži? La Petite Ceinture je 32,5 kilometrů dlouhý pás kolejí, který původně vedl po okrajích Paříže. Jeho úkolem bylo propojit jednotlivé pařížské nádraží. La Petite Ceinture (v překladu Malý opasek) začal být stavěn v roce 1852 a to hlavně pro nákladní vlaky a převoz zboží. Od roku 1862 ale začal sloužit i pro dopravu místních a postupně se stal velmi důležitou součástí pařížské dopravy. Město se dnes snaží tyto místa zpřístupnit a udělat z nich parky nebo lesíky. Některé z původních nádraží byly dokonce předělány na bary a restaurace. Looking back on MUUS Collection's 2023... This year, MUUS debuted at The Photography Show presented by AIPAD, with our first survey of works from the collection. We were proud to present the first retrospective of Deborah Turbeville and the corresponding catalogue published by Thames & Hudson. "Deborah Turbeville: Photocollage" was curated by Nathalie Herschdorfer and opened at the Photo Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland. Discussions celebrating the exhibition and release of the book were held at Librairie 7L in Paris and Albertine Books in New York. Turbeville's work was also presented in Spain for the first time, in a show titled "Deborah Turbeville: The Power of the Female Gaze" at Bernal Espacio Gallery, which was featured in Vogue Spain and El Pais. MUUS also collaborated with kurimanzutto gallery to showcase Turbeville's works alongside artist Paulina Olowska in a show titled "Resonance". Works by André de Dienes and Alfred Wertheimer were exhibited at Fahey Klein Gallery and Staley Wise Gallery, and Rosalind Fox Solomon had a solo exhibition at Julian Sander Gallery. Finally, MUUS was pleased to return as a Programming Partner of Paris Photo, presenting the exhibition "Fred W. McDarrah: Pride and Protest" curated by Vince Aletti. In the last few months I have done some travels which, although short, were very significant. And now that we are at the end of December and we often report on the past year, I thought it was appropriate to use some photos I took, as a tribute. In November of this year I was in Paris after years, this time because some of my photos were exhibited in the city during the days of Paris Photo, thanks to @imagenationparis . It was a really important experience, first of all because I met a new sister (or rather aunt) @ezgolo . A splendid soul who welcomed me into her Parisian nest at the Gambetta stop and made me feel at home straight away. Then the exhibition, and the exhibitions, it was truly phenomenal to be in a city where everything led back to photography, everything revolved around what I have loved since I was a child. And I felt at times like the country girl, where the people there have access to everything that I could only dream of or imagine as far as photography goes. I met some of the people who changed my life and to whom I shyly said a few words. People who, seeing their images at 15 years old, changed the path of my entire life and my human and emotional investment. Paris was important because through a timid discussion I understood, above all, my value as a photographer, and it opened up a world of possibilities for me. In the space of a few days I met people who were interested in my work and asked me for possible interviews, or talked about possible future exhibitions. And then the magnum, yes I was in that place that really changed my life. It was magical to be in this open-air museum, despite its contradictions.
