Let us revisit some of the deeds of Australian soldiers by listening to the stories of my family members! 😁 6 June 1944 – D Day. My paternal grandfather, Sir Nigel McQuarrie, lost several fingers during this. You might ask: How can an avian loose any fingers? He did not loose his own fingers, of course! He had the important task of collecting the fingers of his comrades that were shot off by the bloody Krauts. But this was not the piece of p*ss he expected! A f*cking Nazi hand grenade exploded right next to grandpa and he dropped the bloody finger bag! They probably became food for the fish which were caught by the French fishermen in return. I guess that is the bloody circle of life?? In the end, he visited a field hospital, to say sorry to the guys whose fingers he lost. There he met a young Canadian officer named James Doohan. To cheer him up, my grandfather told him about this fictional language he was working on. Long story short: The tw*t stole all of his ideas and used them for a TV show – at least that is what Grandpa Nigel told. And I have no reason to question his words just because he was a pathological liar. A more traumatic experience happened to my great-uncle Bill Pickledon in New Guinea, in the final war months. He and his boys had some breakfast in the early morning and Bill prepared nutritious fairy bread. Then the Japs attacked and they had to take cover behind a finger painting of King George. Not a single member of his squad was killed but something worse had happened: Their beer got shot! Have you ever seen "Saving Private Ryan"? Do you remember the scene in which a German sniper gets Vin Diesel? The poor beer went the same and Uncle Bill could do nothing but watch and lick off some of the beer from the shards. He was not the same afterwards and could only drink from beer cans when he returned in 1947 (his squad got lost in Indochina). I hope all of you were able to learn something from this. So here is the first of my Seasonal Porgs. After collaboration with my daughters, the name Cleo was chosen. They went through a mermaid phase and since there are four seasons and ultimately there were four mermaids in one of their favorite shows (H2O), it all made since. Cleo, played by @phoebejtonkin , was the first mermaid and rightfully is the name of the first of the seasonal Porgs. Also I’m always looking for fun backgrounds and noticed that the Covid masks that my wife made are now decorations. I figured I’d use the Star Wars ones for these quick and small projects. Today Rey-Punzel and I got to go to the @disneyana.fan.club.official event to meet @babyyodafisher and his baby brother Chip, both stars of @seeradtv - we even got to wear special just our size “See Rad” buttons! Then Fisher took us on the VIP tour of the droid racing space which was super cool. And because Rey and I were VIPs too (mine stands for “very important porg” and hers is “very important princess”) we got a special swag bag to share with fun See Rad stuff! It was very nice to meet friends and some fellow @droidsmithsunion members (also friends!) but these press events are very tiring too, even when you’re just a guest. (1) Excellent lunch bento yesterday of Japanese sandwiches on shokupan from Enchanted Oven and (2) disappointing dinner gyros plate (with jalapeños?!) at an undisclosed place in Broomfield. We wish we had better Greek, Turkish, Lebanese, etc. food near us. Thankfully, the sandwiches from lunch were really satisfying and filling along with the delicious kabocha soup, so we felt okay with trying a different dinner option that had a 50-50 chance.
