We visited @ntquarrybank today and enjoyed their Blossom on the meadow celebrations. It's on again tomorrow (Sunday 21st April) so I thought I'd share. Everything is free apart from admission to the mill, gardens etc (free if you are a national trust member). The event is outside of the gardens, on the meadow so you don't need to be a member. There is live music at intervals from 11am to 3pm, a coconut shy, hooka duck, painting pots, bracelet making and origami too. There's also a free photo printer in the shop so take a photo and have it printed out with a beautiful blossom boarder. We spent a lovely few hours here, on the playground and walking in the woods. Yesterday, I got to work in Styal village, in my Storyteller role. We have a cottage that we guide public tours around. This cottage is pretty special. It was built for workers, ordinary people, and thanks to decisions its human tenants have taken through the years, it remains structurally unaltered from when it was built in the 1820s. Which means you can stand exactly where Ann and Peter Nicklin did when they took the first tenancy of this house, and made it their home. The ordinary working people of this time tended not to leave much evidence of their lives - we don't have the volume of letters or diaries for them that the wealthy ruling classes left behind. We can't say with certainty what their daily lives were like. What they thought or felt. But being able to stand in the exact place they stood. Being able to imagine how you might live your life in this space. The comforts and difficulties of doing so. That gives us an idea, at least, of the thoughts we might have had, and how we might have felt, had we lived in this space 200 years ago. And that's pretty special. 💫 The weather was spectacularly April yesterday too. Blue skies one side, hail and rain storms the other! Yesterday I was working my part-time job, as a Story-Teller at Quarry Bank Mill. @ntquarrybank My work days here always start with lighting a fire in the Apprentice House. After which it's on to whichever location I'm based in for the day.
