Tears streaming down my cheeks. Shivers of huge energies travelling up and down my spine. A sense of breathlessness in many moments. And yet at the same time, overwhelming waves of sudden openings of space expanding exponentially in my chest. Like the crystallised case of my entire heart space was falling away and I could really truly breathe for the very first time. Huge bursts of oxygen and adrenaline pumping through my body, expanding every cell. This was my experience of witnessing bellydance for the first time back in 2012. A deep remembrance and an unshakable sense that my ancestors were calling me back to my soul through this ancient, powerful dance. I had intuitively felt a call when I saw a poster to “Illumina”, a Tribal Fusion Bellydance show in Ocean Shores. So I listened to the call and went, not knowing that night would change the course of my entire life from that moment on. I had no idea the scope at which this dance would affect me and how it would become so deeply entwined with the biggest inner journey of my life. All I knew was this dance was for me. And that on some level it was already woven into the very fibres of my soul. After personally journeying with this dance for 11 years now, I have discovered that the medicine this practice contains is vast, deep and rich; a medicine that is so intrinsic to the essence of the embodied Feminine. Within the container of this discipline, a space opens up for a freeing and healing of all feminine wounds, and an invitation arrives for all who dance this dance. An invitation to drink from the well of infinite depths, the divine womb. To surrender into the magnetic flow of feminine eros. To birth ourselves fully, in truth and courage. And to transmit the Feminine in all her rawness, power, magic, wisdom and beauty. This dance is an ancient gateway for the feminine to be discovered, revealed, embodied and celebrated. This dance is for all women and for all who want to know Her. And I’m SO so so infinitely grateful to be celebrating 11 years of journeying with this incredible practice, medicine, art and dance. Let's talk a little bit about this piece here. Yes this page focuses on dance, but it also focuses on spiritual growth through said dance. The Hermit retreats inward every now and again when understanding with self needs to happen... Think of a caterpillar awaiting its emergence as a butterfly 🦋. We never know what it endured while it was away. Was it in pain? Was there joy? Did it dance? Did it sing yet no one could hear it? Did it pop wheelies in its back yard when the sun did come out every other day? Who knows. What you can see when it does emerge is its beauty, its grace, its dance, and perseverance. We don't know if this butterfly still feels the pain of its caterpillar days when it lands on the tree it used to nibble from. We don't know if it's still insecure cause it has one green feeler instead of 5. We just see it's beauty through adversity. Happy International Dance Day! When I was a kid, I used to perform in our living room to my parents and any guests that might be around. I especially enjoyed to dance to music that was dramatic and had an eastern flavour, like Habanera from the opera Carmen or Bolero by Ravel. (I was also downloaded with a wide variety of music by my dad, classical, ethnic, blues, progressive rock and so on. Thanks dad 🤍🥰) I took ballet classes when I was 7, but it was a bit too rigid for me, and I remember how two skinny little girls in the dressing room told me that if I want to be a ballerina I can never eat chocolate. My path in ballet ended that day 😂 I tried some other styles and eventually I found my way into Bellydance in 2001, and Tribal Fusion in 2010. Best choice ever 👌🏽 Dancing has so many benefits for you physical and mental health, that instead of listing them all here I'm just going to say it's magic, pure and simple ✨ Have you danced today? I'm about to go practice for a performance in Estonia tomorrow. But it does not have to be "practice", you can just pick a good tune and shake your bum from side to side and bop your head and snap your fingers and you're doing it. Keep doing it until the weight of the world feels lighter, your blood pumps with more vitality and you feel more connected to yourself and the collective energy. That's it!
