Taking a little time to celebrate a special anniversary. Went to my favorite occult shop in Colorado today which is always such a delight. I remember the Conjure Gala of 2019 when I first checked that store out and met so many awesome people there. It was my first time gathering with other occultists and it was an amazing experience. I can finally break the big news! As of today a selection of the Mountain Conjure line is available in person and in store at @ritualcravt in Denver, Colorado! Ritualcravt was one of the first magick shops I was able to visit when I first moved to town. Amazing selection of art, supplies, and materia magicka, not to mention a whole host of super knowledgeable practitioners and house witches to answer questions. Adding in @ritualcravtschool the place is a one stop shop for practitioners and seekers. In fact, I’m hoping to be teaching a Saint Expedite class there soon if everything aligns. Sauna as women’s domain ✨ Historically and throughout Scandinavian sauna culture, men may have been the ones who built the sauna, but I would argue that sauna is traditionally the women’s domain. It is said that “life begins and ends in the sauna”, and from birth until death women have been the keepers and tenders of this tradition - birthing, healing, conducting ceremonies, and dealing with deaths within the blackened walls of the olde saunas. I will talk quite a bit about this in my upcoming online sauna tradition class, link in my bio. Sauna and sweatbathing is a living cultural tradition! I have spent a ton of time learning from excellent teachers, compiling history from folk archives and stories from elders, and will also share from my experience of how to utilize these traditions in modern ways on the lands we live on today. In August of last year, I completed the certificate program at UVM to become an End-Of-Life Doula (also know as a Death Doula, or End-Of-Life Midwife). In December I completed my bachelors in psychology at SNHU. In between the two programs I trained to become a volunteer at a hospice. And in September I’ll start grad school. So I have been busy getting ready for my future career where I hope to help people through life and specifically the many aspects and stages of grief. Deadly Nightshade Emporium is still my baby and I have many new pins and products in the works for the coming year. Ideas that I’ve had for years are finally coming to fruition. A few more places: the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse which was beautiful and whose tea was exceptionally delicious. Definitely going to order some online. We also have Linger eatery which has good food and service but I can’t recommend it because it’s definitely one of those places where you’ll leave hungry and have to get real food somewhere else. The Myco cafe was a delight and if I lived in Denver I’d probably be there super often. Comrade brewing, great brewery and chill hang out space. Ritualcravt js another place I’d be all the time. They have EVERYTHING for your witchy needs. Grammy’s Goodies was a recommendation from an Uber driver and it is delicious, and you will absolutely have leftovers. And I did finally make it out to Trve Brewing which is cool, but I thought it would be bigger. Also Grandma’s House Brewing was so cool. Excited to host another space for Death Contemplation and Ceremony @ritualcravtschool next Wednesday, 1/17/24 at 6:30pm 🕯️ This is an in-person event where I will be guiding you through a transformative journey of deeping your own relationship with mortality in light of your own inevitable death that broadens your unique understanding of what it means to be alive and be given the opportunity to hold the sacred mystery of life. This teaching not only deepens our capacity to hold death as a sacred act in life that we all must face but allows us to see the importance on how we are living and facing our lives day to day. This is done in a ceremonial space where we give intentional meaning to death - for our own, our loved ones and our community. This ritual allows you to see what is possible at end of life and how when we honor Death as sacred, we give it meaning. And, the more meaning these spaces are filled with, the less suffering we experience when it occurs. The end of a breath, a meal, a day, a season or relationship… How we meet endings shapes how beginnings emerge. We are all fundamentally and consistently in the flow of beginnings and endings all the time - whether we acknowledge it or not. Our behavior and relationship with “endings” in life say a lot about how we will handle the end of our lives. Are we in the the natural cycle of this human experience or do we continue to get off cycle by avoiding, delaying or being isolated in belief that don’t contribute to the overall health and wellbeing of our inevitable end. To love something includes the end of the thing you love - a marriage, a job, a moment, a life. Please join me for my first class this year called The Magic of Trees in Fairy Tales for @ritualcravtschool 🌲 Jan 26, 6-8pm MST. A while back, I read this book called “The Hidden Life of Trees.” And I remember watching that TV series called the OA, and there was this whole subplot with tree sentience in it. I’m kind of fascinated by these things, by this intersection between science and nature and story, and that’s the idea behind why I am doing the research to present this class. As somebody with a huge background in literature and stories, but who is now doing all this editorial work in deeply technological scientific articles, I’m continually fascinated by how “magical” science is. I am also interested in all of the things that science cannot explain. And when you look at fairy tales and folktales (and myth), so many of them feature trees as supporting characters. Sankta Lucia Shrine & Community Candle Devotional, Dec 10-17th @ritualcravt 🌟 St. Lucia’s Day was a prominent celebration during the holiday season for my ancestors. Olde calendars placed the longest winter night around Dec 13th- it was thought that on this night evil forces were afoot; animals were possessed and could speak and there was a dark undertow. Lucifer was perhaps wandering… My studies have suggested that as the church and the cults of saints came in, so did St. Lucia {originally an Italian saint} and the dark undertow faded into St. Lucia’s feast day, a time when the light came back and there was hope and celebration during harsh northern winters. The St. Lucy tradition has endured and the day is filled with ritual, songs, and joy; a very prominent celebration in Sweden and also in my hometown where the diaspora is abundant. For me, St. Lucia shines her light in my darkness, she shows me things I cannot always see {she is the saint of the blind}, and she brings joy and luminous energy when I need it most. Her observance is a community offering- a time to send warmth, healing and resilience out to those who need it most. I will be setting up my 120+ year old large, solid wood Sankta Lucia statue with traditional offerings at Ritualcravt from Dec. 10th-17th. Join us at the storefront any time during shop hours to light a candle or two for a community member, family or special person you know who could use some light in their life. You may also bring appropriate offerings for St. Lucy if you like. There will be lussebullar to taste and you may leave a donation as an offering to be donated to a local non-profit.
