Funeral Friday. Ever heard of water cremation? Water cremation, also known as aquamation, bio-cremation, or alkaline hydrolysis, is an alternative to traditional cremation and burial methods for handling human remains. In water cremation, the body is placed in a chamber filled with a solution of water and alkali, typically potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide. This chamber is heated and pressurized, accelerating the natural process of decomposition. During the process, the body undergoes chemical hydrolysis, breaking down organic materials into their basic components. This leaves behind bone fragments, similar to those produced in traditional cremation. The bone fragments are then dried and pulverized into a fine powder, which is returned to the family as cremated remains. Water cremation is often touted as a more environmentally friendly option compared to traditional cremation or burial. It uses less energy and emits fewer greenhouse gases, making it appealing to those concerned about the environmental impact of funeral practices. Additionally, the process avoids the emissions of pollutants associated with traditional cremation, such as mercury from dental amalgam fillings. Despite its advantages, water cremation is not yet widely available in all regions, as regulations and infrastructure for this method may vary. However, it is gaining popularity as an alternative to traditional burial and cremation, particularly among individuals and families seeking more sustainable end-of-life options. My brother-in-law recently visited the St Louis Cemetery in Louisiana and shared these photos with me. It's the oldest cemetery in the State - established in 1789. I took this picture (and the rest that follow) the morning after my first Christmas without my mama with me in 2022. 💜 I had booked a room at the Dream Inn in Santa Cruz, one of my mama’s favorite places, and a hotel she always wanted to stay at but never had the chance. I set an early alarm in case the sunrise was worth it, and boy howdy, was it ever! Not only do I look for her in the butterflies that flutter across my gaze, but in the sunrises and sunsets of each day as well. The pure luck and privilege that I felt to receive this gift given over the ocean we so revere. 🌅 The east ignites, a canvas vast, Where ocean meets the dawning fast. A blush of rose, a lilac tear, A sunrise born of loss, so clear. The gentle waves, in mourning dressed, Reflect the hues upon their crest. I am very proud to be a part of a growing field of death doulas. Since 2019, according to the National End of Life Doula Alliance, the number of death doulas has grown from 260 to over 1,500. Whereas many offer pieces of the puzzle of what is needed in one’s end-of-life journey, doulas are the thread that knits all the pieces together. Ahead of time, we work in tandem with attorneys, medical providers, and accountants to help you get your affairs in order. In the days and weeks leading up to death, we are there with your hospice and mortuary team. And finally, after death, we are there to help your loved ones navigate the myriad of service providers from banks, insurance companies, movers, and others. Doulas offer a range of services, from pre-planning, to vigils, to after-loss support. It’s important to think about what services you want ahead of time so you can find the best match. Peruvian psychologist dies by euthanasia after fighting for years in courts for 'death with dignity' An Associated Press article by Franklin Briceno A Peruvian psychologist who had an incurable disease that weakened her muscles and left her bedridden for several years died by euthanasia, her lawyer said Monday, becoming the first person in the country to obtain the right to die with medical assistance. Ana Estrada fought for years in Peruvian courts for the right to choose to die, and became a celebrity in the conservative country where euthanasia and assisted suicide are illegal. In 2022, Estrada was granted an exception by the nation’s Supreme Court, which upheld a ruling by a lower court that gave Estrada the right to decide when to end her life, and said that those who helped her would not be punished. Estrada became the first person to obtain the right to die with medical assistance in Peru. “Ana’s struggle for her right to die with dignity has helped to educate thousands of Peruvians about this right and the importance of defending it,” her lawyer, Josefina Miró Quesada, said in a statement. “Her struggle transcended our nation’s borders.” Estrada, 47, had an incurable disease called polymyositis that wastes away muscles. She began to present the first symptoms as a teenager and started to use a wheelchair at the age of 20 because she had lost the strength to walk. Estrada obtained a psychology degree and became a therapist. She earned enough money to buy her own apartment and became independent from her parents. By 2017, however, Estrada’s condition worsened and she could no longer get up from her bed. She had difficulty breathing and survived pneumonia. Dr. Francis LaMoyne! We love a thinker beyond their time. I mentioned briefly that he actually was a fan of natural burial but at that time there was still a worry about disease being spread among the people and he thought cremation would be more easily accepted. As we see from the post, cremation still wasn't ideal for most folks. Though cremation has gained popularity over time, there's still a lot of hesitancy towards it. It would seem we are perhaps ready for these deeper contemplations. Someone asked me yesterday, if property is an illusion—as is the illusion of separation—is grief, therefore, also an illusion? Not that it is not experienced as real, but that it is a consequence of something that in essence does not exist. Thank you for this question, and may we make room for the contemplation it evokes. Our dying and our grieving are in our nature, and, despite what we may think, are a communal, collective experience; they imply all of us. Within this context, property is an illusion that causes much suffering. The fact that we assume we can or do lose something or someone is a consequence of that illusion. And the illusion of control generates added suffering, as, together with assuming something or someone belongs to one individual or a selected few, we also assume we have the right to, or that we can, control their destiny. Grief is the human condition, so, this is not to invalidate or negate our very real experience of grief, and the very real opportunity for healing and transformation that it facilitates. Stacjonowali tam żołnierze radzieccy jeszcze w latach 90. Likwidacja bazy nastąpiła w 1992 roku. Cmentarz jest bardzo przygnębiający, ponieważ jest tam wiele grobów dzieci. Na grobach leżą zniszczone już zabawki. Pokrzepiające jest to, że mimo iż jest to cmentarz radziecki ludność Bornego, dodam napływowa w tej chwili pewnie w 99%, jakoś dba o te groby. Palą się zawsze znicze. Jak jedziemy tam na spacer, to też zawsze staram się zapalić świeczkę. 🤓 Everything in the world, whether created by nature or by man has a cycle of existence distinctly its own. This refers not only to men & mountains, to machines & vegetables, but also to corporations & disease and even ideas and emotions. All have a definite starting point and a distinctive pulsation, or rhythm of existence. Medical science and the students of biology and physiology agree that human life is divided into a progression of periods of 7yrs ea. From birth - 7, there is a period of self discovery. From 7 - 14 is physical growth and muscular control. The third period is one of mental, the fourth is one of growing spiritual awareness. The 5th is the creative period and so on… Human beings were designed by the Creator to live for twenty and one half periods of 7yrs each, or about 140yrs. Of course today no one lives that long. In fact half, 74yrs, is usually considered a good long life. This shortening of the potential life span is the result of man’s failure to live accordingly to the laws of nature. New research shows people who have received the C*vid19 gene therapy have reduced their life expectancy by a minimum of 48% (Sweeden Research Study 2024). This news is disturbing and heartbreaking. The senses are the platform the mind uses to implement its version of reality, covering over Existing Reality. In deep meditation, eyes closed, silent surroundings, no movements to touch, no tasting, just Being, Oneness prevails. When the eyes open, the sounds start and the movements begin again with touching, then eating and drinking, the Oneness seamlessly slips under the veil again of personal reality, which is the mind made secondary reality. The senses are the gateway for mind made reality to flourish. You can not remove the senses, nor would you want to, the senses are a divine ability with which the transient experience of living is known through. The senses are to be enjoyed and marvelled at what is sensed, but not at the level of them, sit much much deeper. The deeper one can go whilst the senses sense, the less mind can cover Existing Reality with its own version.

One sentence at a time. Bankrupt at 16 and thrown out of college at 18. He joined Saatchi and Saatchi at 21. Had a ball. But after a decade or so, he left advertising to go back to Wales and build his own brands. He started howies in 1995. Sold it to Timberland. Left. Started The DO Lectures, which was voted one of the top 10 ideas festivals in the world by the Guardian. And in 2012 started a company making jeans called The Hiut Denim Co. in his hometown of Cardigan. A town that used to have Britain’s biggest jeans factory. Its purpose is to get 400 people their jobs back. As of today, it now employs 27 people. What is your fondest memory? Dancing with the family at Christmas, singing songs, playing silly games. What is your proudest moment? The family in conversation around the dinner table about nothing in particular and everything that matters. What three words best describe you? Grit. Creative. Kind. What don’t people know about you? I was a trainspotter long before it was cool. How would you want to be remembered? As a good dad, husband and friend.
