Qazi Muhammad was a Kurdish leader and the President of the Republic of Kurdistan, which was a short-lived self-proclaimed state in present-day East Kurdistan. He played a significant role in advocating for Kurdish rights and autonomy in the region. Qazi Muhammad led the Kurdish nationalist movement during a period of political upheaval in Iran following World War Il. In January 1946, he declared the establishment of the Republic of Kurdistan in Mahabad, a city in East Kurdistan. As the president of this republic, Qazi Muhammad worked to establish Kurdish sovereignty and implement reforms to improve the lives of Kurds in the region. He also aimed to create a Kurdish national identity and promote Kurdish culture and language. However, the Republic of Kurdistan faced opposition from the Iranian government, which sought to maintain the occupation over the Kurdish-populated areas. In December 1946, Iranian forces, with the support of the Soviet Union, suppressed the republic and arrested Qazi Muhammad. He was subsequently tried and executed in March 1947 by Iranians, marking the end of the Republic of Kurdistan. In September 2014, Kobani was a battleground between Is*s terrorist and Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Women’s Protection Units (YPJ). On Sept. 27, 2014, the US-led air coalition launched its first attacks on the ground near Kobani. Then, 1,500 Kurdish fighters from north Kurdistan joined other Kurds in Kobani. On Oct. 31, 2015, more than 20 vehicles with Peshmerga forces entered the city of Kobani through Turkey. These arrivals marked the first time Turkey allowed ground troops from outside Syria to reinforce the Kurds defending Kobani. On Jan. 26, 2015, the YPG, along with the Peshmerga reinforcements and the continued US-led airstrikes, liberated Kobani. KOBANI UNITED KURDS For Kurds, Kobani has been not only a symbol of continuous Kurdish resistance but also a fulcrum for deep nationalistic sentiment. The battle of Kobani has united Kurdish factions in all parts of Kurdistan. For instance, the deployment of Peshmerga to Kobani illustrates an unprecedented degree of cooperation that emerged between Kurdish groups across current borders. Furthermore, the deployment of Peshmerga to Rojava was the outcome of many initiatives for Kurdish solidarity before Da’esh assault on Kobani. In August 2014, when Da’esh targeted the Kurdistan Region of south Kurdistan, fighters from the Kurdistan Workers‘ Party (PKK) descended from their mountain bases to battle the terrorists. Around the same time, YPG fighters crossed into South Kurdistan to save thousands of minority Ezidis from sure death at the hands of Da’esh. On July 31, 1983, under the orders of Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi army raided numerous camps near Hewler/Erbil and further north in South Kurdistan and abducted 8,000 Barzani men and boys, some as young as 10 years of age and elderly men of up 80 years. Their mothers, wives, and daughters would never see them again. The Iraqi army massacred all of them later. The Barzani men and boys were taken to deserts in southern Iraq, executed and buried in mass graves. The remains of some were found in the deserts of the south after 2003 and transferred to the Kurdistan Region for proper burial, but the whereabouts of thousands of victims are still unknown. On July 2, 1993 a Turkish mob set fire to the Madimak Hotel in Sivas, North Kurdistan-where a group of prominent Alevi writers, poets, and thinkers had gathered. 37 people died in what became known as the Sivas (or Madimak) Massacre. For Alevis, the incident reflected the prejudice and hate the community faced in their native homeland. Discrimination against the Alevi community is rampant and pervasive in Turkey’s government, society, and the education system. While this prejudice is hardly new, the situation under the leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his AKP party is only getting worse. The attack took place not long after traditional Friday prayers, when the mob broke through police barricades to surround the Hotel Madimak, where artists, writers and musicians had gathered to celebrate the life of 16th-century Alevi poet Pir Sultan Abdal. The hotel was set alight, and the fire claimed 37 lives, including those musicians and poets attending the festival. The response from the security forces at the time and afterwards was weak. The assault took place over eight hours without any intervention by the police, military or fire department. Alevis and most intellectuals in Turkey argue that the incident was triggered by the local government as flyers and leaflets were published and given out for days before the incident. The Turkish government refers to the Sivas Madimak Hotel incident as an attack on intellectuals but refuses to see it as an incident directed towards Alevis. The events surrounding the massacre were captured by TV cameras and broadcast all over the world. Turkish-Islamic -conservative newspaper Yeni Akit published a front-page story on 23 July 2012 declaring the Sivas massacre a „19 Year Lie“, claiming the victims had been killed by gunshots rather than fire on the basis of morgue photos it claimed were previously unpublished. In June 2023, the Iranian forces arrested at least 168 citizens in Iran, an increase of 61 cases or 57% compared to the previous month. According Hengaw’s report, at least 77 Kurdish and 50 Baloch citizens, including 25 women, 16 children, 7 teachers and students, were arrested and kidnapped by Iranian forces in June. 76% of the individuals who arrested in June, equivalent to 127 people were Kurds and Balochs. Sheikh Said of Piran was a Kurdish Sunni religious leader and freedom fighter originally from a village in Bismil town of Amed (Diyarbakir) North Kurdistan. Sheikh Said was raised both in Palu and Xinis districts of Erzurum. He spoke both Kermanci and Zazaki and was a widely respected religious figure in North Kurdistan. He was a prominent member of the mystic school of Sufism. Sheikh Said led a rebellion against Turkish state under rule of Atatürk in 1925. In the face of Kemal Ataturk’s purge against the Kurds, Sheikh Said mobilized diverse elements of the population to resist, numbering over 15,000. His forces were predominantly Kurdish citizens, religious, and members of the Hamidiye militia cavalry. Said merged the interests of Kurdish tribal chieftains and experienced military officers who had served in the first World War. The movement’s goals were broad but included the restoration of Islamic governance and guaranteed rights of language, freedom, and expression for Kurds. The uprising would ultimately fail after an unsuccessful siege of the city of Amed, where the Kurdish fighters were outmatched by the modern military equipment of the Turks, which included machine guns and airplanes.Sheikh Said was captured in the spring of 1925 and was publicly hanged on June 29, 1925. The fate of @samanyasinorg a Yarsani-Kurdish rapper remains unknown after arrest. Saman Yasin (Seydi), a Kurdish rapper from Kermanshan, East Kurdistan and a resident of Tehran, who was arrested by the Iranian security forces at his home on 2 October 2022. On 29 October 2022, Iran’s state news agencies reported that a court hearing had been held for several arrested protesters, including Saman Yasin. On the same day, a video of the singer’s forced confessions was released by the state media. The media said that the Kurdish artist had been charged with „enmity against God“ (moharebeh) and „assembly and collusion with the intention of acting against the security of the country“. The accusation of „enmity against God“ (moharebeh) and the publishing of forced confessions obtained from the Kurdish artist as a result of pressure and torture have caused concerns among his family, human rights organisations and public opinion in Kurdistan and Iran regarding his detention condition and the possibility of issuance of a death sentence for him and other defendants. On July 20, 2015, ISIS carried out a suicide bomb attack in Pirsus district of Urfa, North Kurdistan. 33 people lost their lives and more than 100 were wounded in the explosion. Led by the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF), the people had gathered at the Arama Cultural Center as part of a campaign to bring toys and aid to children in Kobanì, a western Kurdish town neighboring Urfa. The only defendant who was under arrest in the Pirsus massacre case has been sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment 34 times, as well as 1,890 years in prison. The 21st and final hearing of the case was held on October 22 at the Urfa 5th Heavy Penal Court. Upon the call of the Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF), around 300 young people came together in Pirsus on July 20, 2015. They were there to bring toys and humanitarian aid to the Kurdish town of Kobanî. While they were in front of the Amara Cultural Center for a statement for the press, a suicide bomb attack was carried out. 33 people lost their lives and more than 100 were wounded. ISIS operative SheykhAbdurrahman Alagöz was identified to have carried out the bomb attack. A confidentiality order was imposed on the file on July 23, 2015 because „the examination of the documents in the file would jeopardize the purpose of the investigation.“ Filed by the Sanhurfa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office 18 months after the massacre, the indictment demanded that three defendants, one of whom was arrested, be given life sentences aggravated for 104 times each. Yakup Sahin, one of the defendants, was arrested as a suspect. According to the indictment, Deniz Büyükçelebi and Ilhami Balli, the other two defendants, were in Syria. The lawsuit filed into the Pirsus Massacre started 21 months after the incident at the Sanhurfa 5th Heavy Penal Court on May 4, 2017. On March 23, 2019, the Kurdish-Led Syrian Democratic Forces declared victory in war against The ISIS terrorists. In a statement Saturday, the SDF said 11,000 fighters were killed and 21,000 seriously wounded in the fight. „On this occasion we cannot but remember those heroes and pay tribute to the memory of the martyrs and wish the urgent recovery of their wounds, without their sacrifices we would not granted this victory,“ the SDF General Command said. Also among the dead are foreign forces from the U.S.-backed Coalition, including American service members killed in a January suicide bomb attack in Manbij that was later claimed by ISIS, and dozens of international volunteers who fought with the SDF. After rising to power in 2014, ISIS once controlled a territory in Kurdistan, Iraq and Syria as large as the United Kingdom, but that land has been recaptured by collective Kurdish Peshmerga and YPG/YPJ fighters, Iraqi security forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces in Rojava, backed by a 79-member international Coalition led by the United States. Kurds played the main role in defeating ISIS terrorists supported by Turkey, Iran, and gulf countries. The resistance in Kobani and Shingal were the impossible point in the history of this war. Although the ISIS has been declared defeat but there are still countless sleeper cells in the region. On 18 March 2018 the Turkish Regime and its Arab-Syrian mercenaries occupied the city of Afrin in West Kurdistan (Rojava) in a brutal military campaign called „ Operation Olive Branch“. The Kurdish city of Afrin used to be a haven that was protected from the destruction caused by the Syrian civil war. It was home to over 400,000 people (mostly Kurds). After the occupation, the Turkish regime started an ethnic cleansing against Kurds. More than 300,000 Kurds were displaced and over 400,000 Arabs from other parts of Syria or formerly controlled by Isis and other jihadist groups were imported into the Afrin region. Over 8,000 Kurds including many women and children have been kidnapped by the Turkish army and Arab-Jihadists since 2018 whom most of them haven’t been released yet. A dozen villages, especially Yezidis ones have been destroyed and emptied or filled with imported Arabs. Thousands of hectares of olive orchards have been demolished by the occupiers as well. The occupiers have cut thousands of these trees and steal the products from the orchards and sell them in international markets. Today, over 100,000 displaced people of Afrin are settling in Shehba Refugee Camp. On 16 March 1988, the Arab-Baathist regime of Iraq, under Saddam Hussein’s leadership attacked the city of Halabja in South Kurdistan with chemical bombs containing anthrax, botulinim toxin, and aflatoxin. The attacks were a part of the Anfal Campaign and genocide against Kurds. Over 5,000 Kurdish civilians were brutally killed in this attack making it the largest chemical bombing against civilians in history. Over 10,000 other civilians were injured and Preliminary results from surveys of the affected region showed an increased rate of cancer and birth defects in the years afterward. The Halabja attack has been officially defined by the Supreme Iraqi Criminal Tribunal as a genocidal massacre against the Kurdish people under Saddam Hussein. The attack was also condemned as a crime against humanity by the Parliament of Canada.
