-The Kidnapping Of The Sabine Women-🇮🇹 The kidnapping or the rape of the Sabine women is one of the most well known parts of Roman mythology! Roman history is often related to its history, so this myth used to being thought as the truth by the Romans! When Rome was founded, after the death of his brother, Remus, Rome's king, Romulus, had to deal with the problem of the fact that the number of men living in Rome was significantly more than the number of women! Rome was inhabited by muscular men who were strong soldiers but without a way for their kind to be continued and reproduced the city was doomed. So Romulus tried at first to negotiate with the fathers of women from neighbouring regions to let their daughters get married to his Roman men. But that plan failed as the fathers wouldn't accept their daughters on the side of foreign men! So Romulus and Roman men came up with another plan... They invited the families from the neighbouring regions to Rome to celebrate together for god Neptune. When no one was expecting it, the signal was heard and Roman men ran to the place where all the virgin young women were (most of them were from Sabini) and kidnapped them! The rest of their families fled from Rome in order to escape to survive, letting their young girls back. Romulus knew that threw violence the women would never accept to get married so he ensured them that they would live happily next to their husbands and they would feel loved, care and safety and he also promised to give them equal rights! Later, Sabine men gathered army in order to attack Rome! When Romans got ready for the fight, the women stood in between the two armies and begged them to make peace, cause if the fight would happen, they would even end up widows or orphans! So peace was made and later on the kingdom of Sabini became a part of the Roman kingdom. #romanempire👑 #Rome #RomanKingdom #Sabini #Women #Men #Italy #War #Caesar #JuliusCaesar #Augustus #RomanRepublic

Temple of Saturn These are the ruins of the Temple of Saturn- the primordial god of time and the seasons. It is fitting, then, that this site is both the eldest and youngest temple in the Forum. It is believed that construction began during the reign of Tarquinius Superbus, the last king of Rome, but it was not completed until the early days of the Republic. It was officially inaugurated during the consulship of Titus Larcius, in 497 BC. It is believed, however, that the temple's altar was much older, and it was associated with the original cult of the god on the Capitoline Hill. By the time of the Republic, the Capitoline was associated with Jupiter, king of the gods. But in earlier times it was known as Mons Saturnius - Hill of Saturn - and it was believed that the god ruled over Latium from this seat. His reign was thought of as a Golden Age, his kingdom an idyllic land of nymphs and fauns. The columns that stand here today are not those raised in the days of King Tarquinius. That temple was destroyed by fire in 360 AD. By this time, Christianity was the official religion of the Roman Empire. And yet the Temple of Saturn was rebuilt. The inscription on the pediment proudly declares: "The Senate and the People of Rome restored the Temple consumed by fire." The reconstruction of this venerable temple is not just reflective of a broad movement of pagan revivalism in the 4th century, but of the deep reverence the people of Rome had for Saturn. #templeofsaturn #romantemple #romancolumns #ioniccolumns #romanruins #romanmythology #romangods #pagan #paganism #pagantemple #templeruins #rome #romankingdom #romanrepublic #romanempire #romanforum #forumromanum

#wise #wisdom #pathoftruth #rome #romankingdom # #romulus #remus #mars

V. Rome was a Kingdom, a Republic, and an Empire Rome started off as a kingdom somewhere in 700BC and eventually threw out their kings and formed the Republic in 509BC. The republic reigned until the time of Julius Caesar, when he claimed the rule of Rome under a single power, leading to the end of the Republic and the founding of the Roman Empire after his death in 31BC. Rome’s first official Emperor was Augustus Caesar who claimed himself the Emperor of Rome in 27BC. #RomanKing #RomanKingdom #RomanRepublic #RomanEmpire #RomanRoads #Gladiator #RomanGladiator #Newspapers #Empire #ancientrome #rome #ancient #roman #history #romanart #romanhistory #romanculture

IV. Rome Invented Paved Roads A design originally used by the Etruscans, roman roads were vital to the success of the Republic and the Empire. They allowed Rome to move armies, officials, citizens, and trade through the conquered territories with safety and ease. Rome began building the roads in 300 BC and they expanded as the Republic, and eventually the Empire, grew. The roads were often stone-paved and metaled, had proper drainage, and some even had footpaths on the side of the road in case of traffic. They spanned across fields, through hills, and across rivers. #RomanKing #RomanKingdom #RomanRepublic #RomanEmpire #RomanRoads #Gladiator #RomanGladiator #Newspapers #Empire #ancientrome #rome #ancient #roman #history #romanart #romanhistory #romanculture

III. Most Popular Sport – Gladiator Matches Rome had many forms of entertainment to keep the masses happy and distracted. But the most popular of them all were the notorious Gladiator fights. Gladiator or “Swordsman” in English, known today as objects to throw into a match where they cut each other to bits, Gladiators were actually well played professional athletes. Much like professional athletes today. Gladiators did not just face each other in direct combat but also fought wild animals, and convicted criminals with death sentences. Not all Gladiators were former slaves. Some volunteered and were from wealthy families in Rome. Some were even Emperors, in the case of Commodus, the son of the great Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Some even rebelled and fought the very Empire itself in the case of Spartacus. Gladiator matches started somewhere in the 3rd century BC and ended somewhere in the 5th century AD. #RomanKing #RomanKingdom #RomanRepublic #RomanEmpire #RomanRoads #Gladiator #RomanGladiator #Newspapers #Empire #ancientrome #rome #ancient #roman #history #romanart #romanhistory #romanculture

It was founded under the well known Roman, Julius Caesar, and was ordered to keep and publish the acts of the people. The notices were posted daily and was carved into metal or stone and posted in a public location on a called an Album for the public to read. Which was a whitened board. Salvete Quirites! — #Sejarah #Roma #SejarahRomawi #SPQR #RomanHistory #KerajaanRomawi #RomanKingdom #Roman #Rome #King #History #SejarahDunia #SejarahKuno

Salvete Omnes! Lalu teori yg ketiga adalah kata Bahasa Yunani Kuno lain yaitu ῥώμη (rhṓmē) yg berarti ‘kekuatan’. — #Rome #Roma #Roman #RomanKingdom #Kerajaan #Romawi #Sejarah #Bahasa

Roman democracy, beginning in 503 BCE with the overthrowing of the #romankingdom in favor of a republic, was an early form of the democratic values we see today, despite the fact that only free Italian males could vote. It was dominated by a class of wealthy men known as the #patricians, although the lower classes, known as the #plebians, were able to secure equal rights by 287 BCE under the Lex Hortensia. The Roman people were careful to avoid any sort of Kingship in Rome, and spread out the power of the republic considerably through the #senate, the Plebeian assembly, the elected Tribunes, and more. Even after having become an empire, the Senate, in addition to many republican traditions, remained, although they were mostly for show. In addition, republican cultural values such as the importance of liberty and following the republican traditions of Rome’s ancestors were strongly emphasized. –Tristan #rome #democracy #republic #wedontneednoking

(The Latin kings of the Roman kingdom(753 to 509 bc),lucius tarquinius priscus, master of military conquest and architectural construction, part 2) After a great flood, Tarquin drained the damp lowlands of Rome by constructing the Cloaca Maxima, Rome's great sewer. The arch was constructed in 578 bc,and stole inspiration from Etruscan structures of the earlier period,He also constructed a stone wall around the city, and began the construction of a temple in honour of Jupiter Optimus Maximus on the Capitoline Hill. The latter is said to have been funded in part by the plunder seized from the Sabines. Tarquinius was the first Roman ruler to ever celebrate a Roman triumph.According to Florus,Tarquin celebrated his triumphs in the Etruscan fashion, riding a golden chariot drawn by four horses, while wearing a gold-embroidered toga and the tunica palmata, a tunic upon which palm-leaves were embroidered. He also introduced other Etruscan insignia of civilian authority and military distinction, the sceptre of the king; the trabea, a purple garment that varied in form, but was perhaps most often used as a mantle, the fasces carried by the lictors; the curule chair; the toga praetexta, later worn by various magistrates and officials; the rings worn by senators; the paludamentum, a cloak associated with military command; and the phalera, a disc of metal worn on a soldier's breastplate during parades, or displayed on the standards of various military units. Tarquin is said to have reigned for thirty-eight years. According to legend,!the sons of his predecessor, Ancus Marcius, believed that the throne should have been theirs. They arranged the king's assassination, disguised as a riot, during which Tarquin received a fatal blow to the head by an ax. However, the queen, Tanaquil, gave out that the king was merely wounded, and took advantage of the confusion to establish Servius Tullius as regent, when the death of of Tarquin was confirmed,Tullius became king,in place of Marcius' sons,or those of Tarquin.

(The Latin kings of the Roman kingdom(753 to 509 bc),lucius tarquinius priscus, master fo military conquest and architectural construction, part 1) Lucius Tarquinius Priscus (also called Tarquin I) was the legendary fifth King of Rome, said to have reigned from 616 BC to 579 BC. Tarquinius Priscus came from the Etruscan city of Tarquinii and was actually named Lucumo. He was very rich and had settled in Rome with his wife Tanaquil. He had emigrated because he was forbidden to enter the political offices of his own city. The reason for this lay in the origin of his father Demaratus, who came from the Greek city of Corinth. On his arrival in the city in a chariot an eagle took his cap to the Janiculum and set it there. He interpreted this as an omen, once he became king. In Rome he attained great respect through generosity and skill. King Ancus Marcius himself noticed him and adopted him as his son, also appointing him guardian of his other sons. After the death of Ancus Marcius, Tarquinius Priscus was able to convince the People's Assembly that he should be elected king over Marcius' natural sons. His military ability was immediately tested by an attack from the Sabines. The attack was defeated after dangerous street fighting in Rome, and he then further subjugated the Etruscans. Thus the cities Corniculum, Firulea, Cameria, Crustumerium, Americola, Medullia and Nomentum became Roman. After each of his wars, which were always extremely successful,he brought rich plunder to Rome. He doubled the size of the Centuriate Assembly to 1800 people. Tarquin is said to have built the Circus Maximus, the first and largest stadium at Rome, for chariot racing. The Circus Maximus started out as an underwhelming piece of land, but was built into a grand and beautiful stadium. Raised seating was erected privately by the senators and equites, and other areas were marked out for private citizens. There the king established a series of annual games; according to Livy, the first horses and boxers to participate were brought from Etruria. It received the name Circus Maximus as a way to set it apart from the other stadiums built at this time in a similar fashion.

He was her rapist. After confessing it all to her father and husband, Lucretia stabs herself with a dagger unable to bear the dishonour brought upon her. It is believed that the rape of Lucretia was the breaking point in the Roman kingdom. Tarquin and Lucretia - oil painting from the 16th century at @fitzmuseum_uk

ANALYSIS: WHAT WAS ROME'S FIRST ARMY LIKE? ➖ Although as history well records the Romans would go on to forge a huge empire, they started off as no more than a small community around the river Tiber in Italy. Their territory grew very slowly, and it took centuries until Italy was fully conquered. Just like Rome itself, her army did not originate as a great fighting force. This is an overview of the Roman army that existed around the 8th and 7th centuries BC. - There are historical sources like Livy which do give descriptions of wars and battles, but the early Roman period is so shrouded in legend that their reliability tends to be suspect. Warfare was done on a very small and much more personal scale in this period, consisting mostly of raids into enemy territory to secure plunder and prestige, or trying to stop enemy incursions. This might also be used by influential Romans as a means to compete with one another, whose reputation could be significantly boosted by military success'. - Our most reliable evidence for how these early Roman warriors looked comes from archaeology. Iron was initially rare among Roman warriors, and it was only at a slow pace that bronze started to be phased out in the production of weapons. Helmets, of which there were some different types, were presumably the most common form of armor, which were mostly bronze and focussed mainly on protecting the upper head. Body armour, mostly breastplates, was likely used mostly by wealthy warriors. Shields were also quite certainly used, likely being very basic in design with round or perhaps oval and rectangular shapes. - 📸: Sean O'Brogain - #Rome #Roma #RomanArmy #RomanWarrior #RomanKingdom #AbUrbeCondita #History #RomanHistory #AncientHistory #MilitaryHistory

Republic. A republic, from Latin words of 'res publica' meaning public affair, is a form of government in which "power is held by the people and their elected representatives". Roman Republic are the first one to use such administration system, dating way back in 509 B.C.E. following the overthrow of Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, the last of Rome's seven kings. With current days republicanism, it has become the opposing form of government to a monarchy and therefore a modern republic has no monarch as head of state. As of 2017, 159 of the world's 206 sovereign states use the word "republic" as part of their official names. The primary positions of power within a republic are attained through democracy or a mix of democracy with oligarchy or autocracy rather than being unalterably occupied by any given family lineage or group. The examples of countries that are Republic today are Indonesia, Turkey, United States and many more! Salvete Quirites! Umumnya kedudukan raja/ratu diwariskan berdasar garis keturunan.

Menantu Lucius Priscus, Servius Tullius menjadi raja penerusnya. --- #KerajaanRomawi #RomanKingdom #SejarahRomawi #RomanHistory #Romulus #SejarahRoma #RomawiKuno #AncientRoman #AncientRomans #SejarahRomawiKuno

Hundreds of Roman gold coins found in basement of old theater. The coins, at least 300 of them, date back to the late Roman imperial era and were found in a soapstone jar unearthed in the basement of the Cressoni Theater in Como, north of Milan. • • • Follow @historic.photography for more updates ...................................................................................... #hisoricalplace #roman #romankings #romankingdom #romankingofspear #romanempire #romanhistory #romanimperium #romanimperialcoins #historicalnewspapers #historypictionary #historical #historicphotography
