March 15, 1993 is a day of remembrance and reverence in our organization’s history. On that date, we lost our beloved Captain, John Lombardo. Operating as a Pittston City firefighter, John and West Pittston firefighter Leonard Insalaco lost their lives battling a commercial structure fire in downtown Pittston. John was one of our most dedicated members and always sought to advance our service. We wish he was here with us today to see the advancements made by his beloved organization. An FDNY lieutenant was arrested Saturday for allegedly choking a city emergency medical technician during a heated on-the-job altercation, sources said. Neal Francis, 47, of Brooklyn’s Engine 234 in Crown Heights, was charged with strangulation, police said. Although the NYPD refused to provide specifics about the confrontation – including whether anyone was seriously injured or who the victim is — multiple sources told The Post that Francis was busted for choking the EMT early Saturday while both were on duty.Firefighters and medics typically responded to the same emergency calls. A spokesman for the FDNY, which oversees EMTs and paramedics, said he needed to see the arrest paperwork before commenting but said the department is aware the alleged victim is an EMT. It wasn’t immediately clear Saturday night if Francis would face disciplinary action.Francis, who made $168,205 including overtime last fiscal year, could not be reached for comment. While attacks on medics by firefighters are a rarity, assaults against medics by civilians are surging.In November, Oren Barzilay, president of the union representing more than 4,100 rank-and-file city EMTs and medics, told the City Council that “EMT assaults are at an all-time high.” The Council is currently considering two bills by Minority Leader Joe Borelli (R-Staten Island) aimed at protecting the first responders by guaranteeing them access to bullet- and stab-proof armored vests as well as yearly self-defense and de-escalation training.

Throughout EMT school I was told EMS’s bread and butter is code blues, cardiac arrest whichever you call it. On this page I’ve spoken about the communities trust COUNTLESSLY, cardiac arrest runs are no different. “Please help my son/daughter/father/mother” - if you ever doubt the communities trust in you ask them, I promise they will tell you, I promise they’ll tell you how much they need and trust you. The amount of trust a person has to have to willingly hand over the lifeless body of a family member is unexplainable. It is up to YOU! To continually train and improve yourself on not just the fire side but the EMS as well. EMS is not only most departments bread and butter but also where we can prove ourselves to the citizens and show a presence outside the station and the super market. Special thanks to our members for all doing their part to get this unit ready for service. Getting a unit prepared for Department of Health licensure is no easy task. #stopthebleedmonth Hands on: Multi-Trauma-Bandage von Lifeguard (MTB) Nach dem ersten Ausprobieren der MTB für den letzten Beitrag habe ich mich zwischenzeitlich etwas intensiver mit der Anwendung der Bandage befasst und habe für diesen Beitrag exemplarisch den Armtrageverband, den Kopfverband und den Druckverband ausgewählt. Negativ aufgefallen ist mir, dass die MTB Beine Selbstanlageschlaufe (wie etwa die klassische Emergencybandage) hat. Das macht es in der Eigenversorgung wie auch in der Anwendung als Armtrageverband schwieriger aber nicht unmöglich. Durch den Klett am distalen Ende der Bandage hat man die Möglichkeit eine Schlaufe zwischen Bandagenende und Druckapplikator zu improvisieren. Für den Armtrageverband ist das vermutlich zeitlich kein Problem, aber wenn es um eine kritische Blutung geht, dann kann das schon wertvolle Zeit kosten. Der Kopfverband war wie erwartet kein Problem, hier waren auch wieder die intermittierenden Klettsicherungen von Vorteil. Druckverband kann die Bandage auf jeden Fall und das laut dem Model @anna.esch89 recht suffizient. Eine zusätzliche Drehung der Bandage über dem Applikator sorgt für zusätzlichen punktuellen Druck auf die Blutung. Hier sehe ich die MTB im Vorteil gegenüber der Emergencybandage und gleichauf zur Hartmann-Trauma-Bandage, da der Druckpunkt dort landet, wo er soll. Zusammenfassend: ✅ Kopfverband ✅❎ Armtrageverband ✅Druckverband ❎ keine Selbstanlageschlaufe Ein Gesamtfazit zur MTB mit Zusammenfassung der letzten Beiträge folgt morgen am späten Nachmittag. Werbung wegen Markennennung.
