Michele Pred is a Swedish-American conceptual artist whose practice includes sculpture, assemblage, and performance. Her work uncovers the cultural and political meaning behind everyday objects, with a concentration on feminist themes such as equal pay and reproductive rights. Pred has been represented by the Nancy Hoffman Gallery in New York since 2004. She has organized Feminist Art Parades in numerous cities, including Chicago, New York, Miami, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Stockholm. Pred has exhibited both nationally and internationally at the V&A Museum in London, The Berkeley Art Museum (BAMPFA) in Berkeley, CA; Neuberger Museum, White Plains, NY; Bild Museet and Kulturhuset in Sweden; University of Westminster, London; and at the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Pred is currently co-curating an exhibition at UTA Gallery in Los Angeles titled In Pursuit of Freedom. I am thrilled to announce that this photograph will be on display on a billboard in Los Angeles! What a beautiful thing, to share a little bit of Chicago with this city. This piece is called “Home is Here” & was originally dreamt up listening to Kaina’s song “House”. I wanted to show a beautiful safe space created by Black & Brown folk. For me, my experience being queer is pushing against the oppression society puts upon marginalized folk, it’s speaking up loudly for those who need us to be loud, it’s fighting for a more liberated world, it’s creating loving and supportive environments, it’s feeding one another, and loving well & with respect. Delaney George is a New Orleans-raised visual artist, photographer, curator, director, gallery owner, and co-founder of creative arts agency DCDG & Co. In her practice, George most often portrays the black femme narrative through a series of photoshoots she fully conceptualizes. Most creative epiphanies come to George in a series of dreams or visions. George's work aims to extract feeling from the viewer by consistently portraying themes of nostalgia, femininity, and history re-imagined. In her career, George has served on several curatorial boards for large scale collections such as the New Orleans Museum of Art and was pronounced the youngest black female photographer to show at Frieze Los Angeles in 2023. Today marks 20 years of artist Jon Rees being sober, clean of alcohol and drugs. On that day two decades ago he walked away from St Mungos hostel and if you follow us you know that St Mungos became what is currently Kindred Studios and Jon normally works from the building but today he is celebrating with people who have been part of his journey. Jon found photography during his periods of darkness which gave him the first signs of light, he saw the power of art as more than decorative- the pure expression and as he explains , it’s one of the things that helped him on the road to recovery. Jon runs workshops to help others find photography and creativity in general the way forward in well being - he encapsulates what Kindred is about. Only a week and a half ago Her Majesty, Queen Camilla came to visit Kindred and met Jon to hear about the work he’s done as well as see it! The Interdependence selected artists are The Groovy Girls: Jenna Elise Alexander & Lisa Celeste, Lars Bergquist, and Holy Moly. In the intricate tapestry of life, each thread—no matter how seemingly insignificant—is essential to the grand design. 𝗨𝗦𝗔: November 2023, Houston arts nonprofits @artatatimelikethis and @saveartspace allege censorship by Clear Channel Outdoor, a billboard company, for canceling an exhibit critical of Texas prisons. Clear Channel initially approved the billboards, but a day before installation, they withdrew without explanation. Heads Up Miami! I will be back this week for my yearly Basel week run! Here some flyers for the different events I will be part of!! Starting with a mural I am painting for @artwithmelife which is a cool-shanti House festival in Virginia Keys! Then I will also be spray painting a container with a bunch of rad street artists on the nights of Thursday 7th and Friday 8th at the @hivewynwood in middle of the lively Wynwood madness! Then on Saturday night I will be live painting a canvas and exhibiting at “Uprising”, a super rootsy music and art event at @mokshaartscollective ! Then the 9th and 10th I will have some of my art animations and digital compositions exhibited at @soulverse.miami for their Augmented Reality show! And if this wasn’t enough, I am also part of the city wide exhibition by @saveartspace curated by @jenstark. My art will be showing on a bus too at Collin’s ave and 22nd street. I also will have some art exhibited at @modernarttheorygallery ! So lots of options to catch me and/or my work! Hopefully I’ll get some time in between to go an check other people’s art shows too and maybe even film some fun Podcast interviews, so it’s gonna be hectic as always, but also super fun! After a few setbacks, 8x5 Houston has taken on a new form and is now on view in multiple locations throughout Houston! This work, Actual Size, created by Mel Chin is show on 1802 Richmond Ave close to the Menil collection. The work is also shown at HMAAC and digital billboard truck driving through the city in the coming days through the end of November. Mel Chin, a Houston-born artist, is a recipient of this years Rome prize.
