Just back & What an incredible Honor! Where do I begin? For the past year, I have been quietly laboring to create my contribution to the Brookgreen Medal Collection … the 50th in the series. *Background: The Brookgreen Medal is created yearly via invitation by the Gardens & its development is carefully guarded until its final “reveal” via lecture by the artist who completed the work. These medals are highly sought after & held in the collections of the National Sculpture Society (NSS), American Numismatic Society, Smithsonian Institution & British Museum. More than an accomplishment, I count the commission & creation of this medal to be the greatest honor that I have ever undertaken thus far as a sculptor. I have dedicated my career to the pursuit of excellence in my field of low relief sculpting & this medal stands as an amalgamation of the very best that I have to give. It has been a labor of love - layered with meaning, metaphor, optical depth & much research. This past weekend I presented my lecture & addresses to the membership, donors & Board of Directors at the Gardens. There was standing room only & such warmth, happiness and graciousness. Ever since my first visit to Brookgreen (via the NSS 83rd Annual Exhibition) I have been touched by the beauty & grace of these gardens. Brookgreen has given me so much & with humility I have done my utmost to give back in kind, through the creation of my medal. Today, just an introduction.
