The Mighty Mono Lake Lenticular of 2019 ☁️💥 After religiously chasing conditions all over California with my camera for the past five years, this is still hands down the craziest sunset and cloud formation I’ve ever witnessed explode in front of my eyes. The fact this formed directly over Mono Lake was enough of a treat, but getting to shoot this with @surfnsnowboard @_jaymanning_ @jeffjohnson101 @_danacano made this night even more special as we were all freaking out with stoke the whole time. The colors just kept changing and getting even better all around us which was so freaking cool to watch/shoot. It’s fun to reminisce and look back on how I lined this frame up and what settings I used five years ago. This fall colors trip and this incredible afternoon at Mono Lake in 2019 was definitely what kickstarted my passion for landscape photography and it’ll forever be one of my claims to fame being there to see this lenticular do it’s magic 🔥.

La Jolla Flow and SpaceX Glow 🌊 🚀 After unsuccessfully chasing lightning up the coast of San Diego on Monday, I had a chance to get some redemption at sunset later that day with Mr. Murphy @cartermurphyphoto . Since the clouds were looking good over the ocean, we thought it’d be a fun idea to shoot one of our favorite spots for flow down in La Jolla. With a smaller tide going up, it gave us so many options for comps in the area and it was so hard to choose which one to shoot. As the color started glowing, I decided shoot this flow over the rocks and it totally delivered with these silky little falls! With the tide going up quick, we almost missed one of Elon’s satellite launches for SpaceX as we battled to not get wet with our camera gear while racing back to the pier at Scripps to shoot the launch. All in all, it was a pretty epic day of chasing all types of conditions in SoCal on Monday ⚡️ 🌊 🚀

Flow at the Castle 🌊 🏰 Last week, my dad and I made a little mission up to good ol Laguna Beach to go help my grandma with some tedious yard work and to hunt for a bit of flow along the coast for sunset. After following the models pretty closely the days before we went up I was 95% sure that sky was going to bang off the coast, so I knew we had to pace with trimming the trees to get down to the beach. After finishing up right before 6, we boogied down to the beach with grandma pacing down PCH which gave us enough to time to setup and find a comp. I’ve had this lineup in mind for many years now and I was seriously worried my dream shot was about to be compromised because of the quinceañara and three wedding shoots going on at the castle. Fortunately for my dad and I, the crowd cleared out right as the sky started to detonate with color and we scored! Can’t beat a sunset like that with the pops and the grandma in attendance 👌🏻 Happy Friday legends 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

Scorching Sierra Sunrise 🌄 Here’s another one of my favorites from my epic two week stay up in Mammoth from a couple of weeks ago. This was a super tough morning to wake up and motivate for with @cartermurphyphoto and @samantha_lindberg , but with the clouds looking like they had some solid potential to the east I knew I had to muster up the courage to get after it with the locals. Fortunately for us after trudging through snow and dried up cow dung to get to this bend, the sky exploded with color and we scored! If you zoom in on the right, you can see Carter and his mega tripod which looks like the size of an NBA player 😂 Also, got to hop on a snowmobile for the first time and do some modeling while snowshoeing in front of the Minaret’s for Samantha’s company right after this epicness unfolded. Had my first attempt at deep sky astrophotography this weekend, and it was so exciting to see this image coming to life during the night, and even more so that this was in Copenhagen. What is your first deep sky object 💫? Mine is definitely M42, the Orion Nebula, so naturally this was my first target. The image is about 80x40s on a tamron 150-500mm lens at 350mm with my Sony A7 III on a star adventurer GTI I’m so excited to have taken the first steps in this hobby as an astrophysicist, with much inspiration from both @astrobackyard and @astrorms both of who I have been following for years! Eastern Sierra Color Explosion 🌄 Recently I was fortunate enough to get to spend two weeks up in Mammoth with @cartermurphyphoto and @samantha_lindberg where we got to enjoy some pretty epic snow on the mountain and crazy colors like this behind the mountains. Definitely still got a lot to work on snowboarding wise, but after being on the mountain for so many days in a row with solid snow it helped me progress so much. Hoping I can get to the level the old man @jeffjohnson101 was at back in the day 👀
THE DRIVEWAY // I love the idea of photographing while traveling and exploring new places. Hiking, mountain biking, and riding my motorcycle are my favorite ways to experience my surroundings while expressing myself through photography. That makes it easy to get stuck in this trap, though - if I’m not somewhere new or in some exciting location, I’m not taking pictures. And while it’s great to get to camp and explore, the reality is most of the time I’m at home working, planning those trips that are spread out. Sometimes, there is no better way to get out some creativity than just shooting photos in the driveway. I’ll argue this will even make you a better photographer because when you’re in a boring location with a less-than-ideal setting or background, you really have to try to look at things differently. You'll try new things and get a better understanding of your camera. Learning in the driveway when there is no pressure will help save your butt when you don't want to miss a shot. When we’re in really cool locations, we can sometimes get away with poor framing or imperfect light. These things matter a lot more when you’re standing in a cul-de-sac trying to work around the fact that you’re surrounded by houses and cars. I was very happy with how this set came out. I really enjoyed just putting the bike out and walking around it - looking at different angles and figuring out how to get the light to work for me. On another note, I am obsessed with the Sigma 35mm f/1.4. Flow State Activation 🌊 Last night delivered with epic light, sweet flow, and good vibes with the gang @_jaymanning_ @codymayer22 . It’s always such a gamble shooting flow with your camera when water sprays you from every direction, but so worth it when you get some falls over the rocks like this. With a fast rising tide as we were finishing up, it made for a proper challenge trying to escape the stinky rain water attacking us. Unfortunately for Jay his shoes got soaked, but that’s the price you pay for wearing shoes to the beach 😂👌🏻
