Finally some clear skies! Awake by night and asleep by day. 530 two-minute images for 17 hours and 40 minutes of imaging over 3 nights on Bode's and Cigar galaxies. I am no expert and the scope is a little small for these targets so fingers crossed. Next step will be stacking and processing which will likely take a few days. Stay tuned for the results!

Dreyer’s Nebula IC447 HaLRGB I’ve been trying my luck the past few months with dark nebulae given that I’m in a moderately light polluted zone, it’s been hit or miss. Aside from constantly battling thin cloud layers and occasional flood lights, I’ve found that longer integration is desperately needed for objects with similar characteristics. If there was ever a wrong time to work on multiple projects, this was it. I was simultaneously working on the angel nebula which after preprocessing, I decided that the integration time was way too little. This is very unfortunate because the level of signal I pulled out of that complex was something I’ve really never seen before, but it wasn’t possible to work the noise out of the luminance channel. So be on the lookout for it this winter. About IC447: Located in Monoceros approximately 2,600 light years away, IC447 is a reflection nebula, illuminated by the surrounding stars which results in the dust cloud displaying a blue glow. It’s believed that IC447 is of the same gas and dust complex as the famous fox fur/cone nebula. Enjoy! I’m thrilled to share this celestial duet captured right from my own garden using my telescope—the Tadpoles and the Flaming Star Nebulae. 🚀🔭✨ 🔭 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗮 (IC 405): Discovered in 1892 by Maximilian Wolf, this nebula resides near a group of young stars that separates it from the Tadpole Nebula in the constellation Auriga. Approximately 1,600 light-years from Earth, it’s primarily illuminated by the ultraviolet radiation from the star AE Aurigae. The cloud consists mainly of atomic hydrogen (appearing in red in the photo), but it also contains carbon-rich dust that reflects the star’s blue light, resulting in those bluish regions. A true cosmic symphony! 🌌 🌠 𝗧𝗮𝗱𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗮 (IC 410): Located about 12,000 light-years away (that’s 10 times farther!) in the same constellation, IC 410 is an emission nebula. Its luminous hydrogen cloud stretches over 100 light-years. Sculpted by stellar winds and radiation from the open star cluster NGC 1893 nestled within it, IC 410 harbors two notable structures: the famous “tadpoles.” These gaseous clusters, spanning about 10 light-years, are themselves stellar nurseries. Their tails result directly from the pressure of radiation and stellar winds from the nearby cluster.
