Oh wow….. End of an era. It was 1981 when I was four years old and my family had moved from Chicago to Roselle, Illinois. That same year nearby Stratford Square Mall had also just opened. I have many fun nostalgic memories being a kid there ! I remember loving the sound of the waterfall. It had finally closed for good this weekend. I’m hoping the plans to renew the building into something more useful in modern times will come to fruition. I’m also hoping the architecture will remain. Seems that mixed use and even housing maybe happen. I painted this in February 2023 , my intuition telling me this place may close soon. Like MANY other friends of ours have done over the past few weeks, We went to say our "Goodbyes" to a icon of our youth & adulthood @stratford_square in Bloomingdale,IL. For me personally, Some of my greatest memories are: ▪︎This is the mall that Lisa, Kashif, & "The 2 Michelle's" introduced me to the glorious world of "Spencer's" & "Hot Topic" for the first time. ▪︎I spent A LOT of time here after Neely & I lost our son Alex, For one reason or another, everything about the mall calmed my anxiety & depression at that point in my life. ▪︎When I worked at @officialtowerrecords in Schaumburg, @tommorello from RATM & Audioslave's Mom Mary came in our store often. One day she came in & asked where I bought my grey Cubs Hat from.... Just so happened, I bought it at "Lids" in Stratford and after telling Mary, she went out and bought her"Tommy" one that I got to see him wear about a week later on MTV News.
