From a small community league effort to a major city festival with over 15,000 visitors each September, we can't believe the scale of our growth and impact! The last painting in my 10 day painting post challenge! And quite honestly, the last new work I have to share so I need to get on creating some more art! This is the first piece I painted in my reawakening series and I have some ideas of representational imagery to superimpose on top of the blocks of colour expressive marks however, I am also content with the current composition. Time will tell whether I feel it needs more or can continue to live in this state. I really love the colour palette in this series of 12x12 figurative works imposed on abstract backgrounds. I remember how I felt when I painted those backgrounds; warm, inspired, connected, at ease, optimistic. I chose colours intuitively going for more muted and soft pastel hues juxtaposed against some saturated and darker tones. I love a good contrast. The paintings worked well on their own but they were giving me some emotional depth vibes one evening and I added the female figure spontaneously, pushing the narrative further. #3 in my painting post for 10 days challenge. The first in a series of three 12x12 paintings. A friend helped me name the series, “moments in weakness”. I am grateful for them taking the time and sharing their eloquence with words. I don’t often do figurative work but when I do, it is quite personal and emotive. Representing the figure helps me work through a feeling or situation. Art is so therapeutic in that way that we can take something we are experiencing, good or bad, and put that energy into a creation that helps move us through those emotions and process. I am grateful to my art practice in that sense and the time put in to develop the skills to recreate and work through my reality. I’ve been challenged to post a picture of my art for 10 days so here is #2 and some words about this 28”x22” acrylic painting on canvas. “Life is the moment we are living right now” This painting makes me think of this quote that I have written on my bathroom mirror reminding me to live in the present and find beauty, joy and love in each moment. Butterflies for me are a reminder to cherish the fleeting moments of life. I have been nominated by one of my incredible artist friends @kevin_bigelow to post a picture of my art for 10 days. Kevin creates one of a kind pop art with abstract backgrounds. His work is colourful, complex and cowabunga cool to say the least. Wooowww, I feel like I needed a whole day to recover from Sunday's Art Walk (and my toddler to recover from separation anxiety) but honestly... you are all AMAZING! Visited @strathearnartwalk this sunny afternoon (and chanced that I wouldn't need sunscreen, jury's still out on that gamble) and while I didn't take a lot of pictures (is it a faux pas to take pics of artwork at an art walk? I think I asked this last year too actually...) I secured a few key business cards and my very own @_artisaverb mini magnets which I have been eyeing forever. Alright...this is a bit of a long one... Strathearn ArtWalk Day 1 was a wrap! I wish I got the chance to take some pictures with some of the people that purchased my artworks and art prints. First I'd like to thank Eric, Justin, Abigail, and the rest of the volunteer crew at this event. Just know that you guys rock and y'all are the backbone to this event! I truly had so much fun at this event, especially when I get to bring out my car charger and dark light, demoing to people how some of my new pour paintings looks like with dark lights shining on them. Its fun to see the kids reactions and always warms my heart when they go "wooooooooooooooow". I'm gratefully to all of the folks that took the time to listen to my creative process, it's quite exciting to be able to share process behind my creative ventures! I appreciate all the folks that bought my artworks big and small, originals or print, you are all appreciated! You guys have no idea how much your support means to me! I'd like to thank all of my friends, and colleagues that came by and chat for a bit despite their busy schedules. My mom and dad, and my brother, whose presence I truly feel even when they are not always around... And lastly...I want to thank my wife @crinkle.mingle /@sharie.usman and my 2 kids Luna & Ollie for being there for me not just from the front but especially behind the scenes! You guys remind me why I do this in the first place...to my wife...who inspired actions have influenced much of my mindset in life and to truly be mindful of the signals the universe sends to each and every one of us. My second art walk ever!!!! Can I be vulnerable for a minute? This is such a huge deal for me, because up until recently, I truly believed I couldn't do this. I couldn't just leave my career in business to pursue a dream that creates millions of starving artists. But that's an archaic belief. WHAT IF... I could become really successful in something I'm extremely passionate about. WHAT IF.. I could get paid to visually express my deepest emotions and energies. WHAT IF.. what if.
