A number of images from the Way of the River exhibition currently at Tactile Arts, Darwin until 4 May….swipe through for details. This inaugural exhibition by The Perennial Artist Collective, features 11 Northern Territory artists and their responses to the Adelaide River and its wetlands. My new work (first photo), “Swirling presence” focuses on the pneumatophores, the air roots and tidal movement within the mangrove environment. This work highlights the swirling patterns of tidal and ripple like movements inviting viewers to experience the richness of this biodiverse ecosystem through the medium of yarn. Life drawing at @theartroom.au over the past couple of weeks. Amazing models were Elli and Falco. I got the proportions slightly off in places and according to my dad used an anime style in others which I hadn’t picked up on. 𝒞𝓁𝒶𝒾𝓇𝑒: When the world shut down in 2020, I was in the thick of my art therapy masters program. My classmates and I had gotten used to making art together nearly every day, bringing in elements of ourselves, and taking out lessons learned from professors and each other. When discussions on police brutality and social injustice exploded following the murder of George Floyd, not having our art studio space as a community made individual and group processing of these events isolating and tense. It was hard, but meaningful to work with my classmates and set up virtual open art studio sessions aimed to fill the gap. It became a lifeline for me, a place to witness and be witnessed.⁣ ⁣ CMK.
