Not so long ago (31 years) I took a walkabout in the Northern Territory with Billy Can Tours. When I bought my ticket I was told the tour was recommended for people who were under 30 as it was expected to be strenuous. I had told them that I was 40 and they said they wouldn’t keep me from going, but “it was my own look-out”. When I asked what that meant they said I was an adult and could make my own decisions regarding what I was capable of, and the risks I’d accept. Swimming at Maguk and being told an Irish tourist had recently met (badly) with a croc was the only part of the trip that gave me pause, but I wonder how many great adventures are missed in America over safety and legal concerns. At my advanced age my mind wanders and for some reason I thought of this as I found out this morning that if we call an ambulance to the house, no matter what our insurance is, it might cost us $1,000. @scene.by.us captured these great morning views at Kings Canyon, Watarrka National NT. 🥾The Kings Canyon Rim Walk in the Northern Territory is still one of our top 10 Aussie hikes usually taking between 3-4hrs, as the sheer wall drop offs you walk along are pretty hard to forget, but so are those views. Be sure to do the side tracks as the Garden of Eden was beautiful when we were there too! “The rim walk starts with a difficult climb so you should only walk it if you are fit and healthy. The walk ascends to the top of the canyon and follows the rim around before descending to the car park. About halfway along is the Garden of Eden, a beautiful rockhole surrounded by rare plants. Am I the real mvp? Yogi Peace Club was established by Em in 2014, I have been a advid fan, lover and bought their beautiful and long lasting yoga mats since 2016. Becoming a yoga teacher, building my own studio, bringing to children lifelong tools on the mat to equip them with tools off the mat and into the rest of their lives is where my heart lies. 'If you have a dream in your heart it's yours and there to catch' ~ it's a knowing I've held in my heart since I was a teenager, to help children all across the world. I took the long route and faced some unfortunate circumstances, to get a better perspective ~ now we're readdy to smash it in the park! These photos of me in 2016 are taken on an island in the Northern Territory called Galiwinku. This island had (and has) no yoga studios! No cafes! No shopping malls! Yet yoga was something intergrated in my daily routine, as it had been for many years before that. I believe in the healing of Yoga/Asana's, yoga has transformed my life! I really hope to make it back to the Northern Territory soon! Last year, I was lucky enough to have a successful application for grant funding. I had a fantastic opportunity to hold Brush with B4MBLE workshops from September to January with an amazing bunch of young people in the Darwin, Palmerston and Katherine areas and got to share a little bit of my lived and art world experience with them, while guiding their creative adventure. I had a fantastic time, and I'm pretty sure they did, too. Tonight will be our 9th night at Katherine farm stay. Anyone that knows us would know that we don’t stick around the same caravan park for that long. If you are heading this way and need a base for a few days, this place is fantastic. Everyday at 3:30pm they do the animal feedings and it’s for the little kids and big kids. We arrived the day before a calf was born and during our stay they got the new addition, a young male camel….so so cute. Well done Michael and Rebecca. Jour/Day 274 : 46,71 km, 3h14, D+ 250 m. Total : 11729 km, 755h16 🇫🇷 On repart du bivouac en faisant le bilan : 13,5 L d'eau pour 2 en 1 jour (boisson, vaisselle et douche, lavages des dents). Ça fait beaucoup d'eau à prévoir pour la suite 😅 On arrive à Pine Creek et on se pose pour visiter : le musée du chemin de fer du Never Never (fermé) puis les anciennes mines d'or (c'est sous l'eau, il y a juste un point de vue et un panneau "pour en savoir plus, visitez le musée du chemin de fer"...). Double échec mais ça nous laisse plus de temps au camping car il y a une piscine 😎 (on parlait consommation d'eau avant ?) et on prépare la suite du trajet. On teste aussi la grande spécialité australienne : les tartes à la viande ! 😋 En Australie c'est tarte, burger, cheesecake, vin, bière... Heureusement qu'on fait du vélo pour les calories et du camping pour le budget 😅 🇬🇧 We leave the bivouac: 13.5L of water for 2 in 1 day (drink, dishes, shower, teeth cleaning). That’s a lot of water to plan for later 😅 We arrive at Pine Creek and stop to visit: the Never Never railway museum (closed) then the old gold mines (it's underwater, there is just a viewpoint and a sign "to find out more, visit the railway museum"...). Double failure but that gives us more time at the campsite because there is a pool 😎 (were we talking about water consumption before?) and we prepare for the next steps. We also try the great Australian specialty: meat pies! 😋 In Australia it's pie, burger, cheesecake, wine, beer... Jour/Day 273 : 75,18 km, 5h04, D+ 419 m. Total : 11683 km, 752h02 🇫🇷 Petite visite du cimetière de guerre à Adelaide River pour en apprendre plus sur l'histoire locale. C'est en fait le regroupement de nombreux cimetières alentours afin de rendre un hommage aux militaires et civils morts lors des attaques dans la 2nd guerre mondiale. Après la visite, on a 70 km à faire et le GPS indique de tourner à gauche dans 70 km... Au moins on ne devrait pas se perdre 😅 On est parti pour 2 jours de vélo sans point d'eau, l'occasion de tester notre consommation journalière avant d'attaquer le désert. On sort donc notre belle poche 10L toute neuve Sea To Summit et ça fuit sur une couture en bas et sous la hanse en haut en la retournant... Idée de génie, mettre cette poche dans le sac étanche qui nous sert pour les affaires humides, les sorties kayak et les éventuelles lessives à la main. Mais on s'aperçoit qu'elle a aussi un petit trou... Heureusement que ce n'est qu'un test avant le désert et qu'on a de la marge mais c'est pas fou non plus. C'était sans compter sur Benedikt et Kristin, un couple adorable d'allemands installés à Darwin, amoureux du voyage et du vélo. En nous voyant sur une aire de repos ce midi, ils font demi tour pour nous donner des fruits et de l'eau ! Un pur bonheur de générosité spontanée 🥰 On poursuit jusqu'à un spot à l'écart de l'autoroute pour poser la tente. Petite soirée seuls au monde (ce qui facilite la douche 😅).
