Our friends, Yisel and Suri rescued this little Chihuahua dog who was dumped and found covered in ants on a street in Cardenas. She is a beaten down senior dog who may be missing. Thanks to vet Juan Carlos, she was given first aid and now she is recovering little by little with us. We will take care of her and do everything possible for her recovery. ............................................ Sometimes the right people are in the right place at the right time. Mikayla and Adrian, who had just delivered supplies to us a couple days ago wrote to us yesterday, there was a cat at their hotel who needed our help. He has infected wounds from cat fights, a bloody nose, an abscess by his mouth, he's walking with a limp and he is wheezing. He is a mess. 😢 Thankfully, he is also very friendly and sweet natured which made him easy to catch. Mikayla and Adrian kept Matón (as they lovingly named him), in their room overnight, and Anton, who always shows up where he is needed, went to pick Matón up this morning. They are on their way to Cardenas and Kevin, our amazing vet student is meeting them at APAC House to start diagnosis and treatment. Last week, Heather contacted us to help a dog at her hotel in Varadero who was in the beginning stages of mange. Anton met Heather at the hotel on Sunday and provided her with several doses of ivermectin. Not only does Ivermectin help treat mange, it also kills heartworm eggs and larvae. These tiny newborn babies were rescued yesterday, when they were found abandoned in a garbage dump. Even with the most skilled and loving care, it is likely they are not going to survive, but we will do everything possible. Some were barely moving by the time they were rescued. It breaks our hearts, the mother cat could have been sterilized and this would not have happened at all. What breaks us the most is knowing several people walked past and didn't stop to help. Our first priority was to get them warmed up. They were placed into a kennel with a warm water bottle. If they survive, they'll need to be fed every 3 hours, and encouraged to go to the bathroom. We have recently been muzzle training Piper. She's not a bad dog, and she doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body... She is a very fearful dog, she doesn't understand or trust humans.. We have had her with us for almost a year now, and she still finds it difficult to put her trust in Todd in certain situations (though she snuggles his feet at night) Teaching her to wear this, is so very important for her safety. Never a dull moment when in Cuba. 📸May 2016 I was sitting in the green chair waiting for my friend Kirenia to get her manicure. I set my phone down under the chair to free my hands up to take a few photos (Cuban manis are a little different than ours here in NA 😯). 5 whole minutes later, I looked down and my phone was GONE! 🤯 Apparently, the adorable stealth dog (foto 2) somehow managed to steal it right from under me - literally - without making a sound. Man’s best friend, somewhere in downtown Matanzas. They call these dogs ‘chinos’, I’m not sure why 🤔 (perhaps my friend @marthalina86 knows?). They’re practically hairless almost everywhere except the tops of their heads, and this mama has a few tufts on her chest. Hoy, por tercera vez (que yo sepa), Lili ha cazado un ratón. Ya antes la habíamos visto en acción: olfateando, acechando, acorralando, indicando o persiguiendo con mayor o menor éxito; pero en esta ocasión su trabajo en equipo con @alvaronawk y conmigo ha sido digno de admirar por la inteligencia, la destreza y la eficacia que mostró, cosa poco habitual en situaciones de otro tipo.
