Hungrig und verwirrt haben wir diese frisch ausgesetzte Seele, direkt an der Grenze von Kroatien nach Serbien gefunden… 💔 Er lief beim Grenzübergang verwirrt hin und her als würde er seine Familie suchen. Schnell hat er Zuflucht bei uns gefunden aber ich spürte das er zu große Angst hatte, näher zu kommen. Wir hielten direkt dort an und versorgten ihn erstmal mit Futter und Wasser. Das war meine persönlich erste Begegnung mit einem „straßenhunde“ obwohl ich diesen kleinen Schatz ungern so bezeichnen möchte. I was out shopping for some art supplies when a heartwarming scene caught my eye in the main market street. Four stray dogs huddled together for warmth. $5 Friday‼️ 86 dogs were found living in a single-family home near Modesto, CA. The conditions were described as so deplorable that when the police first arrived at the home, they were unable to enter due to the low oxygen levels (measured at only 26%) caused by the amount of urine on the property. That is what these dogs were living in. Barely able to breathe, packed into tiny crates, living on top of their own urine and feces, in a home with almost 100 other dogs. They were then brought to the local shelter, @stanislausanimalservices, where they sat terrified for a month. @stanislaus_shelter_friends then put out a plea asking for rescues to help take some of the dogs who were the most high-risk due to their high levels of fear and decline at the shelter. So this week, we welcomed Jerry, Haagen and Mallard to the SDH family🧡 They all still have a long road to recovery but they are making huge strides already. Thank you to their fosters, Sarah, and SDH team members Jaymie and Kristen, who have been working with them every day in their homes. When Jerry, Mallard and Haagen first arrived, they were broken. They would bundle up in the corner of their kennels and shake with fear if you even looked at them. But in just a few days, thanks to the patience and dedication of their fosters, they have now started making eye contact and even allowing their fosters to hold them. It is going to take some time for them to get to a place where they are able to be adopted but we will be there every step of the way and we can’t wait to see them transform🧡. Yesterday I brought 500 lbs of dog food and 60 doses of Nexgard to Douglas. 400 lbs was left in our storage unit to be crossed to the Ruiz shelter and 100+ lbs of puppy food will be crossed for 4 different litters of puppies being fostered in Agua Prieta. The Nexgard was divided up where the need was greatest. These items were all purchased with funds from @purpleskyincense . Yesterday and today we got 5 breed and mixed breed dogs sterilized from our village in Kediri, Tabanan. 😀Sometimes it takes lots of talking to convince the owners to stop breeding with these poor dogs. Many of these dogs are kept in tiny cages, or on short leashes, to produce puppies to be sold.😔😭 Those breed dogs that are roaming the streets interbreed with our beloved Bali dogs. Only an estimated 20% of the dogs in Bali today could be considered pure Bali dog. ❤️Zelda❤️ For the first half year of her life this little girl was living on a busy street. A week ago, one of the residents in the area called us about her condition. These were kind people who fed her, and she even got a name!🐹 But Zelda had mange (mites living in the skin and causing hair loss), skin infections, an already healed fracture and bone deformations in her paws due to the lack of calcium in her diet. She certainly needed help! Once she moved into our quarantine, she slept 4 days and nights straight, only getting up for food and some cuddles. 🤗 But by now she already shows great improvement, her skin is healing, she started to play (still she prefers the cuddles though 😉) and is the sweetest and happiest doggy! Little Lumi is all grown up and in a home of her own 🥰 Lumi (shelter name Pirol) entered the Soi Dog shelter as a six-week-old pup in 2022. Her feeder had called us for help after noticing that Lumi was pale and vomiting. Our vets soon diagnosed Lumi with parvovirus, a disease that’s often deadly in youngsters like her. With intensive treatment, fortunately she pulled through. 🙌 Since then, life has only gotten better and better for Lumi. In June last year, she joined our wonderful partner rescue @thebarkinglotrescue in California, USA 🇺🇸 and soon found her family! Here’s what her mum has to say about this small but mighty soi dog: "I wasn’t supposed to get a dog, but as soon as I saw Lumi, I fell in love, and two days later I went back to pick her up to bring her home to Venice Beach in LA. She has been so brave since the beginning and absolutely loves going to the beach, chasing balls, playing with her friends, and cuddling on the couch. She was very unsure about our apartment at first but is slowly warming up more every day. She is an adventurous girl on walks who wants to say hi to every person, dog, and squirrel we meet. She is the biggest cuddle bug and lap dog, and has gotten homemade sweaters sent in the mail from her grandma in Norway for the cold weather in LA lol. She loves playing with her friends, and her size does not stop her from beating her German Shepherd friends’ butt. She especially loves being with her best friend/neighbor/boyfriend Timmi, who happens to be a Soi Dog alumni from 2017 (previously Alabama). Have been a little quiet here because of too many things going on. 1️⃣ Streamlining the feeding of Nabanna bus terminus kids still. Yet to arrange the balance amount for it. 2️⃣ Nino's creatinine has been increasing a bit and thus she is on saline iv med again. Ven pro channel on her leg makes me stay at home to keep a check on her. 3️⃣ Piggly had a bad cough. His blood test reports came out fine. But then he was diagnosed with a mild heart arhythmia. He is on medication and different diet. And he has has improved much now. 4️⃣ 3 kids of my lane has been detected with tick fever. On meds. 5️⃣ Mother is gonna undergo both knee replacement surgery soon. So I've been on my toes! And the list goes on.... But here's a 📷 of some kids enjoying water in the scorching heat. Last year we were alerted to a shelter in Larissa, central Greece, which was severely affected by the floods which devastated the region and everything was destroyed, being covered in two metres of water. Local volunteer, Rania, told us: "On the night of the flood, we released all the dogs so they wouldn't drown. We are left with 32 dogs and we have found a plot of land and we are looking to build something there and start again, from the beginning, our project for the care of local stray animals." UPDATE: ADOPTED ❤️❤️❤️❤️Peanut came to the S.P.A. on February 8, 2024 when he was about 4-1/2 years old. He was rescued by a Good Samaritan who found him wandering on the streets. He’s a super sweet, friendly, Chihuahua mix so it’s no surprise someone fell in love with him in no time for his playful affectionate nature as well as his small (portable) size!
