Picked up our rental and drove to Cork today. Stopped for lunch at the family business (not really) for lunch. Drove to the little town of Cobh, the last port Titanic stopped at before its ill fated voyage. Beautiful little town and a great information presentation on the Titanic and its passengers. You are given a passengers name and you’re told at the end if they survived. Eerie to see the dock used by those passengers. It’s old and in disrepair but it’s still there. It’s called Heartbreak Peir. The roads are as narrow as advertised and driving on the left while driving from the right side of the car is fun and challenging. Today is the day the RMS Titanic sank in 1912. I saw an exhibition of artefacts many years ago in London. Where you were able to touch a part of the Hull which was retrieved, quite literally a very chilling experience. 🙏 I also went to the Titanic Museum 2 years ago, to see where she was built and launched. It was equally quite spooky boarding this Ship. SS Nomadic is a former tender of the White star line, launched on 25 April 1911 at Belfast, and now on display in Belfast's Titanic Quarter. She was built to transfer passengers and mail to and from The Titanic, which was too large to dock at Cherbourg Harbour in France (this she did on April 10th 1912, transporting 274 passengers to their ill fated voyage). Boy, did we luck out. Storm Kathleen was battering us on our walk to the museum in Belfast with close to 70 mph winds. Little did we know they would shut the museum the next day due to storm damage to the roof. As of today, it is still shut. This museum will be a highlight of the trip. Outstanding exploration of the entire story of the Titanic. Advanced booking is advised as the museum is very popular.
