#WriterFriendsChallenge - Share your planner - When I first saw the Indiegogo for the #TudorPlanner, I wanted one, but it was a little pricy and I didn’t need all the bells and whistles it offered. Then I had a stroke. My brain is able to do a lot more executive functioning and anticipatory memory than it was in 2021, but this planner was still worth its weight in gold. The habit tracker makes it really easy to keep track of all the foods I have to limit or keep consistent while taking blood thinners, physical therapy exercises, and everything else. It also has monthly check-ins, Tudor stickers, a pocket, and chamber music listening recs. I also use colorcoded pens for different activities, so as to help my brain focus on what’s most important. I just started using the 2023 planner yesterday and I am likely going to stay a loyal costumer. Before this, I used Peter Pauper religiously since college and either Lewellyn or school issue before that and this kind of combines the best of both of those brands, plus a habit tracker. Side note: Die is an RPG game. I’m not putting hitman plans in my datebook. #FantasyIndiesJanuary - Word you always misspell - Bureaucracy or restaurant. My French ancestors feel great shame. #TheMoonStarsAndSkyChallenge - Redeemable or irredeemable villains - Getting on my soapbox because lazy redemption arcs and their unfortunate bosom buddy, What’s-A-Genocide-Or-Two-When-You-Have-A-Tragic-Backstory-And-A-Great-Ass?, are my pet peeves, in fiction and IRL. There’s nothing wrong with redemption arcs. There’s nothing wrong with enemies to lovers. But don’t cut corners. Make them earn it. Make them do the work because they own what they did and acknowledge it was wrong, not just to earn another stamp on some absolution punchcard (Do 10 good deeds and all is forgiven!). And not because they wanna suck face with Moralauthority Ladyprotagonist. Trying to get my third shipment of test kits before the Free At-Home Test Kit Program ends on Friday, but the USPS thinks my address already got 3, likely because this per-residence system didn’t account for apartment (oh, you know, just that new fangled thing that had really caught on by the Bronze Age) or communal living (literally older than civilization). Why, someone would have to be a veritable Cassandra to foresee that… Anyway, 2 hours on hold with the United States government (not at all helpful), 20 minutes on hold with the USPS (vaguely helpful), and 40 minutes trying to troubleshoot on the USPS website with the advice of randos on Twitter (very helpful) and now I have submitted a service request that may or may not be resolved before the program ends. This is a great system we have here, guys. Oy. Anyway, if you haven’t received your 3 shipments yet, you can (allegedly) place up to 3 shipments before the program ends on 9/2. Last Sunday was my birthday and this Friday is my one year strokeversary, so needless to say I’m having a lot of feelings. I’m trying to distract myself and today provided a shiny new distraction. I’ve been really enjoying audiobooks this year. I was already before the stroke because #TheLostQueen and #TheForbiddenKingdom were truly amazing as audiobooks (thank you, @nypl!), but after my stroke, I couldn’t focus on a print book as long, especially at first, but audiobooks kept my attention. Unfortunately, with iPhone nixing the headphone jack, I couldn’t listen to audiobooks when my phone was charging unless I was alone in the room. In a post a while back, @rebekahbethany recommended the TOZO10 wireless earbuds, especially for audiobooks while doing housework. So with a birthday gift card I went ahead and got the TOZO12s, which were on sale for the same price as the previous generation. And this afternoon they arrived! They can pause, skip, adjust volume, etc with a touch and are wireless so I’ll be able to listen to audiobooks or music while doing a lot more activities. Today’s #WriterFriendsChallenge is to share your journal/notebook/planner. I have been a faithful Peter Pauper Planner purchaser since high school, but, after having a stroke last June, I decided I needed something with more bells and whistles. This Tudor Planner has been a lifesaver. The habit tracker is especially useful as someone who has to take blood thinners, since I have to keep very close track of how much Vitamin K I consume or how often I take Tylenol or Advil, as it can throw off my INR (blood thickness). I can also keep track of therapy activities. This planner also has month and week layouts, places for goals and tasks both short and long term, plenty of room for notes (excellent when you have a Dory the Fish memory with a Tigger attention span), monthly check-ins, a place to doodle, a pocket, chamber music listening recs, and Tudor stickers.
