When I was in university, I won an acting award. When the news got out, I remember someone saying: “There’s no way Sarah got it. She’s too quiet.” I was so looking forward to the Gala last Saturday. It was a fun morning, and I had a wonderful conversation with @littlegothguy who kindly did my hair and makeup. We talked about being homeschooled, and how social anxiety carries a different weight for people who didn’t grow up in a conventional learning environment. I headed downtown, feeling ✨ fierce ✨ . As I walked toward the building, suddenly my homeschooled days didn’t feel so far behind me: “Look at all these people. You don’t belong here. You’re going to mess up.” I went back home, had a panic attack and a good cry (thank goodness for waterproof makeup). Then, a lovely phone call with a friend reminding me to take deep breaths. I changed outfits and headed back for what was a beautiful evening. Anxiety gets thrown around so much now that it’s lost its meaning. It can truly be debilitating. I’ve had to live with this demon my entire life. She almost won on Saturday, but I didn’t let her. The art and people mattered more. Endless thanks and CONGRATULATIONS to the entire @crazy8sfilms team. The films we saw are indicative of the incredible talent Vancouver has to offer. Thank you to @dave_beamish for sharing such an important story. Thank you, @mcinultyc, for on-boarding me, and - to use your terms - HUGELY *levelling up* as a producer. Thank you to @erinjuliemorgan, my/the absolute rock throughout this process. Thank you to the CREW, who work so hard behind the scenes. Thank you to our CAST, who put in their all. Meet Grace, playing Gen in @hardymovie . GRACE VUKOVIC . Grace Vukovic (She/Her) Is an actor who was raised on the west coast of canada on Coast Salish Territory. She has been acting in Film, Television and Theater from a young age and recently graduated from the National Theater School’s three year acting program.
