It’s with great sadness, I have to report to you that at 5:25 pm. today we had to put down Chance . He was the kindest, gentlest, smartest, most intuitive dog I ever knew . He struggled with hip dysplasia for the last 2 1/2 years . Even with the monthly shot and pain pills daily it was not enough . And he gradually lost muscle mass in his hindquarters, so much so that he would fall more often. He was 9 years old . Most people are concerned with first impressions, hoping to be viewed as nice, as pretty, as cool – at the very least, as someone worth a second look. My mom was one of the most (outwardly) confident people I knew, exuding self-assuredness and poise – to a fault. My freshman year in high school, I got permission for three new friends to come over after school. Since I took the city bus, we all piled on for the nearly 1-hour trip home, excited to be out and about on our own, and verbally annoyed with anyone who crossed whatever invisible line teenagers draw in their minds. Reaching home, we entered the front door, meeting my mom in the kitchen, who had just arrived herself from playing tennis. She greeted my (brand new) friends by introducing herself and promptly telling the story of how she forgot her towel and had to blow her nose into her sweatshirt, then showing us the sweatshirt. Mortified, I quickly led everyone to my bedroom. My friends, after deciding that my mom was not, in fact, a complete nutcase, chose to laugh at the situation. For the next 37 years. No joke - it comes up regularly in conversation even today. As my mom died in 2008, it’s a welcome memory that brings back laughter and joy - no small gift. 📍Shops of Legacy Why does coffee always taste so much better when you aren’t the one making it? I had to stop by Stir Coffee Bar when I saw the Reese’s latte on their spring menu. It was as good as it sounds. After talking with the barista, I also decided to add caramel cold foam, and that was the perfect addition. During my visit to Stir, three things stood out to me: 1. Customer service was amazing. The barista went above and beyond making conversation and offering helpful suggestions. 2. This is a great work spot. As a teacher, I am always looking for new places to work/grade, and this is it. 3. Saving the best for last…I can bring my dog. Yes, you read that right. I’ll soon be bringing my golden retriever as she has become quite the pup cup connoisseur. We have so many great coffee shops around Omaha, and this visit bumped Stir towards the top of my list.
