After 11 unplanned days in La Paz, first changing a clutch on the ground in a parking lot with @vwwanderers then getting help and a new spot to park from @livethevanlife, when we experienced “no spark” no start after 2 hours of driving, followed by an outpouring of help from mechanics and community we are finally ready for Geraldos to open. 80% thinking it’s a slipped timing belt (something i don’t have tools to fix in a dirt lot) but that 20 percent can throw ya and often does. someone posted this on my facebook page “As much as I hate to say this…. At least part of the reason, maybe the main reason, we travel to remote, service-free places like Baja, or Alaska, or Mongolia, hell; the reason we drive a 40 year old Vanagon, is because it’s an Adventure. The road to Mision de San Francisco de Borja is really fun if you have clearance and #4wheeldrive though it's not required (clearance is).. the drive was fun and worth it. See, the thing about #roadtripping is that there's usually no set plan, no specific time or day you want to arrive, just a general idea of route....we planned to camp at #lakemead but arrived in a heat wave (109 degrees) so we grabbed a cheap hotel on the strip and showed the kids the lights. we're going to be doing Hoover dam and Grand canyon in some intense heat and hope to be out of it in 4 or 5 days.... so we'll enjoy the last bit of AC and be on our way! #vwvan #syncro #roadtrippin #lasvegas #roam #overlanding #beflexible #memoriesbeforestuff #heatwave #walktallroamwild #descend #adventurewagen #adventure
