Good rule of thumb. After a VERY busy spring break season it was incredible to see the Mover be a 100% walk on! No line. Like zero line. Sign of the times. I was thinking how thankful I am that Disney continues to support a relatively niche attraction like the PeopleMover. There’s no fancy thrills, no cute IP tie in, a very specific fan base…and it can’t be an easy/cheap ride system to keep running. T time. Thanks to my buddy @graceymanordesigns for this awesome retro Tomorrowland Transit Authority sign! The PeopleMover was renamed “Tomorrowland Transit Authority” from 1994 to 2009, before switching to “Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover” from 1994 until the latest refurbishment in 2022 when it reverted back to the classic “PeopleMover.” The various signage revisions have always fascinated me and @graceymanordesigns is keeping the ride’s history alive by recreating of a lot of them. Rhythm and cruise. The Mover is obviously my favorite, but sometimes you get a ride where everything clicks and life just feels perfect for 10 minutes. This was one of those rides. The experience is often about timing. Weather, time of day, and which car you’re in all play a role. Is it raining, blazing hot, or chilly? Is it morning, afternoon, or night? Are you front, back, or middle? There are multiple outcomes, and maybe that’s part of the reason why I like it so much. It’s kinda the same every time, but each ride also feels unique. Lets step into the time capsule as we journey back to this very day in 1975. It's a momentous occasion in Disney history as we celebrate the launch of the WEDway PeopleMover at Walt Disney World's Tomorrowland! Sponsored by The Edison Electric Institute, this attraction provided a futuristic and innovative way of shuttling guests around the park. But here's the thing, the PeopleMover is often overlooked amidst the glitz and glamour of other Tomorrowland attractions. Yet, it holds a special place in Disney lore, deeply tied to Walt Disney's visionary dreams of a utopian, futuristic tomorrow. Did you know that the PeopleMover traces its roots back to the iconic 1964-1965 World's Fair? Inspired by Ford's Magic Skyway, this elevated ride offered a mesmerizing view of Tomorrowland's attractions at Disneyland. Walt Disney had big plans for the PeopleMover, envisioning it as an integral part of his Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT) in Florida. And so, in 1975, Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland welcomed its very own PeopleMover, showcasing remarkable improvements crafted by the brilliant Imagineers. Unfortunately, Disneyland's PeopleMover met an untimely end in 1995, making way for the ill-fated Rocket Rods attraction. The Rocket Rods, regrettably, caused damage to the PeopleMover's track, making restoration a daunting task. But fear not, Magic Kingdom's PeopleMover, now known as the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, received upgrades and a fresh new narration, continuing to captivate guests with its leisurely journey through the land of tomorrow.
