Releasing over a decade after “Toy Story 2”, the highly anticipated “Toy Story 3” managed to surpass expectations and was the highest grossing animated film of all time (before eventually being surpassed by “Frozen”). The success of “Toy Story 3” was in no small part due to the menacing, intimidating new antagonist introduced in the film: Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear! Commonly referred to as Lotso, the deceptively cute, strawberry-scented teddy bear turned out to be one of the most ruthless villains in the franchise. Despite making his full debut in the third instalment of the series, Lotso had a brief cameo in “Toy Story 2”, and was originally planned to be in the very first “Toy Story” but was not able to due to animation limitations at the time. The specially moulded Lotso figure towers over the Woody minifigure - who is already fairly tall for a minifigure due to his hair-hat combination piece - capturing the character’s imposing presence. Though not visible in this photo, Lotso has the nice detail of his tag printed on his back! A slideshow of my emotions while building the new, upcoming LEGO “Mood Cubes” set based on Disney Pixar’s Inside Out 2. I have to be honest, both before and after building this set, I’m confused with who it is meant for. I could see some wonderful applications both at home and in the field of education for young children and children with special needs who encounter difficulties expressing their emotions. However, due to the multitude of tiny pieces, a smaller child may have a hard time building the set. On the other hand, the mini dolls representing Joy and Anxiety are adorable and would be a welcome addition to any LEGO Disney Collector’s collection. Pros: -Great minidolls -Potential tool for educators/anyone working with the special needs community -Possibly a great parts pack for anyone who loved LEGO Dots Cons: -Unclear who it is intended for -Not a great display model -Possibly difficult to build for the young children for whom it is intended LEGO Disney Pixar Inside Out 2 Mood Cubes #43248 will be released on May 1st, 2024 with 394 pieces and a retail price of $29.99.
