Here's one for the "things you don't see very often" files. Check out this aluminum/lucite Electric Guitar Company bass vi! On our bench for a little setup/restring. We had to put away the lemon oil and break out the Mothers aluminum polish... Then we had to get the back brace out. Move over T-40, there's a new heaviest guitar ever candidate in the room.
Here’s an HG-20 with some dumb lookin replacement tuners. I learned from @jakewildwood that these have almost like little guitar inside them or at least the outline of one in the form of an extra set of sides. I learned it from a wrecked one he took all that junk out of and converted to the standard kind of thing one would expect, a big x-braced slope-shouldered Gibson. (A very reasonable thing to do in such an instance) So many companies tried some version of this on big steel strung guitar of this period and then quickly abandoned the idea. Of course Torres had the tornavoz, which was a cylinder fit inside the soundhole and Gibson and some others had the verzi, which was a weird little false top complete with F holes that sat on stilts attached to the instruments back like a model on a midcentury designers desk. These are all efforts to manipulate the sounds path on the interior of the instrument and give you that something that’s been missing this whole time but you just didn’t know it. But these sorts of pursuits often only offer the most subtle of nuance change, maybe for the worse, and the person with the big idea then must try to justify their efforts or despair at their defeat. You can trick yourself into expecting something magical, otherworldly even, but you’re faced with another guitar, good, bad, or indifferent. But wild ideas can keep a creative person going, and wild objects can live a life the their creator never imagined or intended. So you push on not knowing what you’ll end up with or where it’ll go. (Esto salió en Septiembre de este año en Guitar World y está traducido literalmente) Utilizado en grabaciones de todos, desde Phoebe Bridgers hasta The National y Taylor Swift, el puente de goma genera voces con sustain corto, casi en otro mundo, en comparación con una guitarra "normal". Como materiales para puentes y selletas de guitarra eléctrica, el acero y el latón son los reyes, y hay muchas otras opciones: materiales más duros y con un sonido más brillante, como el acero inoxidable o el tungsteno, por ejemplo, o metales más blandos como el aluminio, sin mencionar los sintéticos modernos, incluido el el nylon o el material patentado de Graph Tech que utiliza para sus sillines String Saver.
