Part 2: Ignite your passion retreat - 21.04.24 @mattandnatmindset For me a highlights was participating in the Fire and Ice experience. It consisted of going into a pool of 19-21degrees Celcius believe me it's cold! Then going into the sauna, then the plunge pool 5 degrees Celsius Back in the pool which now feels warm. Back into the sauna then back into the plunge pool. It was great to see the transformation and capture the experience on 📸 From fear to accomplishment! Yesterday, I was a day early for my mentoring session with @allieclarkephoto - You would think having family in the USA would help me with time zones, but alas, it did not. So, I used the time to go back and look at the goals for my business. I realized that they were just a list of failures, areas I wanted to improve, which is important, but didn’t feel like goals. I think this happens to us all, hey? We focus so much on what is wrong or messy or hard, instead of thinking about the fact that we are on our way to reach our goals, that this is all part of it. A really important part. The bulk of it. So, I am going to be better at talking the talk and appreciating where I am at and where I am going. I encourage you to do the same. These hard and messy moments are all part of it. The life part.

I have been busy, busy doesn’t even seem like an adequate enough word. Flat out? Run off my feet? I have barely been posting on social media, something I quite enjoy doing and I have been on more planes, trains and automobiles than I could count. I said to a friend recently “I have so much work to do” and he said “isn’t that wonderful”. When I went out on my own at the start of the year, I feared I would fall, that I couldn’t be “just” be a photographer, that reality was going to come along and tap me on the shoulder and send me packing back to a side job. But here I am, complaining to a friend about how much work I have on and he is absolutely right - it’s wonderful. (This shot is from a front yard session I did last weekend, the best lil family and look at all that colour!!)

An early pandemic photo, what a bananas time.

Consider my cup officially filled, this last few days has been a whirlwind of family and in home session and cuppas with my parents and snuggles with my boys, the only thing missing was the wonderful human we left at home to care for our kitties, shout out to Jonathan for holding down the Woodend fort. A lot of the sessions on this trip were families I have captured memories for in the past, seeing those families and how they have grown just made my heart bloom. Being greeting by little faces that have grown so much and familiar homes made me really reflect on how much I love this work, I love being able to fit into a families space just long enough to take photos of all the good stuff and to ensure that everyone is comfortable enough to show their real smiles and feelings. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who booked me for this school. holiday trip. It will definitely be happening again. Last night I popped an Easter book, a soft toy and a chocolate bunny in a basket, truth be told I had almost forgotten about the supermarket bag of Easter things I had flung in the bottom of the closet a few days ago and when I got up out of bed to arrange it I wasn’t feeling the specialness that I have in the past with these kinds of moments, I worry that the kids are headed towards “that’s not real” territory, I know it’s not far off and it sucks. Just as I was walking upstairs I remembered that when I was little mum would rip up a cotton wool ball leaving a trail of fluff from my room to the Easter treats, as a last minute thought I found a cotton wool ball and went to town throwing bits around. I kind of thought it was silly gag until the boys woke me up this morning , eyes popping “MUM THERE IS EASTER BUNNY FLUFF IN OUR HOUSE!!!!!!” it was like they had just spotted big foot, immediately Jonathan and I jumped into full improv mode “are you sure? Maybe it’s just cat hair? Oh my gosh it is Easter bunny fluff”. It was just the best. I don’t really know what the point of this Easter ramble is, I guess just say you don’t know when they are going to stop being excited about the fluff, so snuggle all your bunnies today and take ALL the snaps of them covered in chocolate and I wish you all many more years of believing.

Yesterday, I spent the day on set, which isn’t the norm for me, however being the stills photographer for this TVC filled me with so much pride. All day, I was surrounded by the most supportive and uplifting crew, and let me tell you, this product was goals – just the dreamiest. Infusing the stills with the emotion of an in-home session felt like owning my craft and bringing the memory feels in a whole new way. This snap isn’t from the commercial, but the experience of capturing real emotion like this made me walk tall yesterday.

This is the first little button I ever captured with my camera, I remember being so nervous walking up to that house, I wanted to turn around and go home, I felt like a total fraud. This little babe has a special place in my heart. I could have packed it all in that morning, but my oh my am I glad I didn’t. If there is anything you have butterflies about right now, push through, wonderful things can happen if you chase those flutters.

Is your kid a collector? We have shoe boxes and pots and bowls and cups of things my youngest has found, we have had to bring my bike to a screeching halt and then search through grass to find the perfect feather he spotted as we whizzed past he comes home from school with pockets full of rocks and leaves, he’s like a magpie building a nest. I love it, but it’s also super annoying.

I’ve been capturing the everyday at home for about 4 years now, the kids no longer notice when the camera comes out, it’s like another member of the family. Having all these moments and memories captured is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Hands down. Everyday the kids wake up and they are changed, just a little, but I have them as they were, captured in the frame. You will never regret the photos you take, just the ones you don’t. Sunday snuggles hit different with a new love.

Taking the kids to a music festivals felt all too hard to me, I worried they would get hot and bothered and then I would be bothered and stressed, my brain kept trying to find ways to leave the kids somewhere air conditioned and entertaining, but I pushed through and we did it and all those things happened - and it was one hundred percent fine. The kids felt the feelings and then moved past them and got dirty and ate and explored and complained and got tired and then did it all again and as I carried my littlest one to the car he said “that was the best day of my life” (note: he has said that a time where he ate really good fish and chips too!) but my point remains. Taking the kids exposed them to different types of music, helped them appreciate live performances and different people and taught me that it’s ok for kids to not be comfortable all the time. Thanks for the life lessons @riverboatsmusic This is a pic of one of my friends babe, he embodied all the festival vibes and all the kids vibes and is a true blue festival child.

When I am not taking photos, I’m thinking about taking photos or looking at photos I have taken, or photos other people have taken or dreaming of future shoots and past shoots and shoots I hope to do. It’s a constant love.

Today we are having a total downtime day in our house, we plan on lazing and I plan on keeping my camera close by. The kids are feeling all the feelings at the moment, I wonder if the start of school and activities and the new year has just got a bit too much for their little hearts? Whatever it is, today we wag, chill, take walks, kick rocks, eat good food and be together.

This morning this little tot made me a coffee (with a little help) but it feels like yesterday I was warming his milk, getting his “Rory” and snuggling him down on the couch for a quiet bottle. It goes by in a BLINK my friends, take the photo (or have me do it).

We’re halfway folks and as a gift here is the sweetest little baby yawn for your feed.
