Let's talk about tone. Children ask a lot of questions, right? About a lot of things? I know that I answer *many* questions throughout the day: What's for dinner? Where are we going? Can I have a snack? (That dinner one still causes me to crumble inside as my blood pressure rises. 🤦🏾♀️) But there are also questions like: What does that word mean? How do you spell...? What does that do? Well, I started to notice that even when my responses were calm and collected, sometimes I would answer with a negative tone. That means that attached to my answer was the expectation that they should know already (and really shouldn't have asked). Or, that their question was somehow unnecessary, so simple it was silly, or bothersome to me. Try saying "3 + 4 is 7" with no affect, then say it again with a "wow, you didn't know that" quality and possibly a lip snarl at the end. Different right? As an adult, I have learned so much from my experiences when they have involved generous people who have been willing to answer my questions, verify information, and explain something multiple times. Our children deserve the same, so our tone matters. How else might a young chef go on to become a master of his craft if not for people on his team who patiently demonstrate, willingly review, and honestly mentor and correct? Possibility is hidden inside of every loving exchange. ♥️

She only went and smashed it!! Today Derry had an appointment at the hospital with a play specialist to try get a blood test. She’s got a lot of medical things going on but she TERRIFIED of all things medical. We were given a bed and I thought we were going to be there hours! It did take a lot of convincing and tears but she just decided I’m doing this. She stuck her thumb straight out and said DO IT! 💪🏻 she smashed it so proud of her! In a fight or flight moment having the courage to do the scary thing when your mind and body are telling you not to is a huge accomplishment. Go our Derry doo! All the medical things she’s had to endure this last year and she’s pushed through it all! One proud mamma today! 💖💪🏻 ALSO!! Slide across to see an orb visiting Derry! You might be hesitant to go deeper about a passage in the Bible because you don’t feel qualified, or you aren’t exactly sure how to explain what you believe...so how on earth can you explain it to kids?! That feeling of not knowing enough is like a little gremlin standing on your shoulder, whispering into your ear. He leans in close to whisper lies, saying, “you can’t answer your kids’ questions” and “you better learn more before you even try to teach them anything” and “you’re such a hypocrite”. If I’m being real honest, you don’t know enough, and neither do I. But God doesn’t ask us to KNOW enough. He simply asks us to know Him. So I want us to stop listening to that “you don’t know enough” gremlin, because it’s not about knowing more, it’s about connecting them to the God who knows it all. Let’s not let those lies win. Here’s the truth: —> It’s not about WHAT you know, it’s about WHO you know. And if you know God, you know he’s available every moment of the day, ready to help with parenting pickles and thorny theological questions. I shared this on a story a few weeks back, and now it’s a post.❤️ I grew up in a house with a lot of tension. My dad was born in 1936 in Jerusalem. It was a much different time. He had a lot of pressures as the oldest boy. He started working at 9, and by his bar mitzvah, he was pulled from school and worked full time as a carpenter. He didn’t have a childhood. I rarely had friends over when I was younger. He didn’t mind showing his Israeli temper.🤷🏻♀️ He was a true #sabra. I often get asked how do you handle the noise of the drums. It must drive you crazy. And the honest answer is, I love it. I grew up in a house where I could never have had this. Now I have this home, where my kids want to be, they invite their friends, and they all feel at home.
