Broke down the big Maple slab into board blanks in preparation for milling. Is this the right project for this wood? Not sure, but I just wanted to do something with it. By breaking it down into smaller boards before milling there is less overall twist and warp to deal with. More wood milling for upcoming projects. Every year the Vancouver Island Wood Guild makes some toy wooden cars for Christmas. Getting an early start this year as they want to display some at a show in early June. We had some old door frames donated that are some beautiful Maple and I think mahogany. A little bit of work to get some nails out before planing. I decided to mill it into thinner pieces because I want to relaminate the two different woods to give the cars stripes. Even with holes, there is lots of good wood here for me to make use of. I use my table saw to resaw, making progressive deeper cuts on each side and then cut the thin middle connecting strip with a hand saw. Stickered and stacked after milling to give it some air to replace after removing the finish. #builtbyruss #woodworking #woodmilling
