In recent years drawing has become an important part of my oeuvre. Love that pen is a clean medium and make strong marks. Scribbling can build tone and texture and the white board provides negative spaces. For me a good drawing needs a full range of tones. Am pleased to be one of the 25 artists supporting our significant Ramsar wetlands in FLOW - stories of the wetlands @thehiveoceangrove. I have painted the Riverflats at Ocean Grove since the 70s but only in the past two years partly from the impetus of this exhibition to do a series of drawings focussing on close up sections of the vegetation at low tide. This depicts an aspect of The Barwon Estuary, not far from Ocean Grove Golf Club. It is created with a range of fineliners and permanent markers. You will see I use a Japanese hanko on my drawings. At the turn of the century I did a teaching exchange at Bunkyo University High School. I was amused that castle is pronounce Jo - hence my stamp. This exhibition at The Hive is going to be remarkable with artists responding to this theme an conveying an important environmental message in so many diverse ways and media. The renown artist and environmentalist, Richard Weatherley OAM will officially open this exhibition on 1 June as well as exhibiting in this show. My favorite piece of Anne Nowaks (@annenowak ) pieces at the moment. It’s grand and breathtaking- I spend some time taking pictures of this piece at the @marriottcopenhagen - not because it was hard to take pictures of but because I kept finding new beautiful angles and kept falling in love with the piece over and over again. Whenever I get a mansion of a house I need one of these ! Some insights on my Phoenix build ⬇️ I've made an insane amount of progress recently, considering the fact that its only been 5 weeks since we first put the frame together. After endless hours of prefabricating hundreds of individual feathers it was finally time to start shaping the body by adding the feathers to the frame, starting with the chest and shoulders, legs, and finally "closing" the back of the wings! 🪽 Rough shapes are looking good! Will start on the tail and head upcoming week, then progressing into finetuning all the shapes and lines, adding detail, and finally: paint! An innovative use of a hair dryer!! @woh.nen has reused hairdryer hoods as speakers to transmit sounds of nature. Art for the Environment is the current exhibition on @groundworkgallery by their 6 artists in residence curated by @camillapalestra from @ual_postgrad_community. An interactive, absorbing and thought provoking exhibition. I enjoyed taking off my shoes and walking on @sophieannagillings installation of seaweed, seeing @lucyjmd investigation into moss, @_nicholasholt_ lovely textural photos of desertification, @lucyjorgeorta beautiful Amazonia film and @eleni_maragaki geometric creations.
