Enthralled by the landscape, I captured several images dotted with joshua trees and the area's stone formations that have arisen from tectonic forces, faults, quakes, erosion, and so on. Anthony Schatzky writes: For this post, I have chosen to show two very different images which are illustrative of two different genres of photography. "Densely Populated Hillside Neighbourhood Bordered by the Tagus River", taken in Lisbon, could be classified as a scenic, travel image. The title makes it clear where the photograph was taken. There is no guesswork or interpretation required by the viewer. Hopefully just an appreciation of the scene. On the other hand, "Unintended Abstract Wall Art" was taken while wandering around Toronto. As an abstract image, time and place aren't important. All the title tells the viewer is that this was seen on a wall, somewhere. I have finally caught up on my sleep and have mostly decompressed after the intense whirlwind that is the Artist Project! ⭐️ I am constantly in awe of the talented, kind wonderful people I am booth neighbours with at every art show (as well as the kind people that visit my booth!). I feel fortunate to have met so many good people in this art journey. ⭐️ Now it’s time to return to my cozy introverted regular life and think about what to paint next. 🙂

Reflection :The initial idea was to show the unusual shape of my sunglasses, but then the softbox intervened making perfect reflection which added to the overall effect. F8 is preparing for it's next show. For the entire month of October we will be showing at the Clark Centre for the Arts at Guildwood in Scarborough.The theme of the exhibition is On the Move: Exploring Transportation Prior to the opening F8 will post images of what the participants have be engaged in since our May show. John writes: In February I had a grand adventure crossing the Yucatan, visiting 4 fascinating cities and 8 Mayan sites, Contemplating another trip in May, I decided to return to Mexico and spend 2 weeks in the capital. 30 minutes by bus north of the city is Teotihuacan. It's like visiting the Rome of the New World, vast and entrancing. The Aztecs believed it was the city of the gods. Is it any wonder - the 2 km long Avenue of the Dead, lined with temples and platforms, hosts 3 vast pyramids,. At one end is the towering Pyramid of the Moon. Walking along the Serapio Rendon through the San Rafael and Santa Maria la Ribera, one is continually delighted by faded grandeur - such as the Art Deco Cine Opera. Finally one comes upon a large, lively park at the center of which is a wonderful Moorish pavilion, with a beautiful fancifully ribbed glass dome at the centre. The historical centre of the city has a multitude of Baroque buildings. Among them is the Palace of the Inquisition. The graceful colonnaded building is now the Museum of Medicine. The Western colonia of San Angel is the home of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México (UNAM). At it's centre the Biblioteca Central is enrobed i na massive mosaic with colourful symbolic historical images. Running through the centre of the City is the Paseo de la Reforma. This is like University Avenue in T.O., but on a much grander scale. Either side is bordered by skyscrapers which TO's look truly unimaginative. I was told the CDMX has more museums and galleries tha Paris. The last one we were determined not to miss was Soumaya in upscale Polanaco. In London, I stumbled upon an attractive new apartment building with curved balconies and unusual orange cladding. On the Avenue Champs Elysees in Paris, fashion chain Yves Saint Laurent was in the process of renovating a building where they are planning to open a new flagship store. Each of the 8 photographers has a unique perspective, so you will see images with diverse subject matter or representation. Good morning. Well we had a doozy of a snowstorm here last night. It was amazing to paint quietly inside my studio to the gusting sounds of the wind and snow. As you may have noticed, I’m loving to work with metallics lately. Here silver and copper mix and mingle with blues and greens. The colours and reflections are different as you walk around it. “They called her home and she took the long way” 12”x 12” This painting got a facelift, it just didn’t feel right. I sanded it which instantly felt better which led me to realize that on a small canvas it is particularly important to have “quiet areas” as @nicholaswilton teaches at @art2life_world The earlier version had too many competing components. So I knocked back the sky and building with atmospheric perspective and dulled the saturated green tree to a dark blue green. Now I feel it’s a much better piece where the viewer can glimpse what taking the long way home feels like. I wanted to add then remove layers to reveal the colours underneath. I’m calling this one, From The Ashes, or New Beginnings. It’s about hope and overcoming hardships. I knew I had to create this painting when my son and I were driving through an area in northern Ontario that has farmer’s fields. In November I visited my brother and sister-in-law in the County for the first time in 3 years. A 4 day visit turned into a month due to an accident. I'm fine and fully recovered now. While I was ther we toured the County a number of times. Towards the end I was evn driving around myself with a neck brace on. I thought this tail end of Autumn would be an unattractive prospect for my camera, But surprisingly the somber tones of trees contrasting with expanses of beige rushes and rows of corn with the brilliant greens of still growing grasses really appealed to me. Add to these the element of the colour from the approaching sunset over the breaking waves along Cressy Lakeside Road presented one lovely vista after another. As the batteries for my Conon camera had been exhausted I was using my Pixel phone. The portrait of a homeless man and the image of a young female tight-rope walker were both taken in India in 2007. Hello all. I woke up this morning to a light blanket of snow. The day feels quiet and calm, so far. I hope you’ve had a peaceful start to your Sunday too. I finished this oil on canvas painting last night. I wanted tons of texture so it took awhile to build up the layers. I’m calling it, Everything Changes. I was thinking about how when something you think you want to hold onto falls away, sometimes there’s something even more colourful and beautiful underneath. F8 arose out of the Beach Photo Club. One of it’s objectives was to provide opportunities for public exposure of members’ printed images. One such initiative was the Beach Calendar. Well the F8 Openings Exhibit is over. Takedown was on Nov. But, on the same day, 4 members who also belong to the Photo Club - Maureen Littlewood, Catherine MacKinnon, Colleen Pollack, and John Wallace – were off to the new Clark Centre for the Arts at Guildwood, where the club was setting up another show. It’s a new facility on 3 floors – so there is plenty of exhibit space. And what a setting. The grounds of the Guild are gorgeous, adorned with the beautiful sculptural remains of classical downtown buildings. And trails lead off into woods overlooking the lake. And there is a path that brings you down to the shores. The crew started assembling at 9:00 AM Monday. Along with their images, we came supplied with step stools, screws, electric screwdrivers, nails hammers, and of course measuring tapes As alwys we were ready to provide a helping hand to each other. The image from Queen Street East epitomizes the appeal of the Beaches Jazz Festival on a midsummer night. Balconies, make-waves, hiking sticks and parking signs form the backdrop. The musicians sing classic jazz pieces about loss, regret, pain, come back for a new day. John Wallace is a founding member of F8. He is thrilled to be part of the Openings show as it presents a glimpse of his passions. John writes: From an early age I have been drawn to architecture.I got involved in photography as an adjunct to travel – the images helped my faulty memory to recall the delights of what I experienced. Cuba is a wonderful destination for experience. The old crumbling buildings are a constant fascination in the textures of decay. And if I am lucky I will capture an image of people which encapsulates life there. This image is from a side street in Camaguey. The mother and child on the step are framed by these aspects of her existence .I love the details of colonial architecture and the view through the doorway to more mundane features of everyday live,.
