This post and frankly addressing this topic has been a long time coming. If it’s happened to you, you know exactly what we’re talking about. For those who don’t let’s talk about it. In late 2023 and into the beginning of 2024 a number of “influencers” we will kindly call them that. Started putting out videos on “hacks” to get free products and services from brands and businesses. By way of contacting them repeatedly through social media and email. Claiming to be a fan of their products and services. Giving some story about how things are tight and they were wondering if the brand or business would send them a gift and they add their address. It became viral these videos on how to do this “hack”. Giving hundreds of thousands of people the idea to spam dozens of businesses at a time with the same messages. Leaving many businesses both big and small with inbox filled with these requests. What the “influencers” behind these videos didn’t mention what this only works for celebrities and even they would never slide into a businesses inbox or dm to ask for free things. So where are we now? Well, it’s time to address this. Small businesses of any kind have not had some grand rebound after COVID. In fact we have lost a significant number of small businesses. They are not flush with income, products and services they want to hand out. While your special events and occasions are super and small businesses are happy for you. This sensation of asking for free products and services for your events and special occasions needs to stop. The spamming of small businesses needs to stop. The trend of entitlement to small businesses offerings needs to stop. The harassing of small businesses across all platforms needs to stop. We’re small businesses and we do want to support our communities and we do donate to the schools and charities, we do our part. We do not however operate our businesses for random strangers who don’t support us, don’t engage with us and who don’t patron our businesses, to supply them with free goods and services. Asking for free anything from small businesses you don’t know is not trendy, it’s just tacky and disrespectful. Respectfully, just stop. Thank you.

Hi there! I feel like I’m just emerging from a long hibernation! I’ve been a bit quiet lately as I’ve been recuperating from my recent surgery. (See my previous post to this one for details!). However, I’m FINALLY feeling like I’m ready to head back to the easel and hope to have some new work to share with you soon. I’m also putting out the call for new commissions!
