This season we have taken a deeper dive into addressing policy makers in the hopes to see a significant shift in disaster recovery across Australia. As a NSW firefighter Jen Vinge shared valuable insight ~ “We have to learn to deal with the borders. During the fires, I can remember, we could see a spot fire flare up which in is Victoria. But being New South Wales side of the border we couldn't radio the CFA to let them know it was there because we're on different frequencies. So, we actually had to drive over the boarder and find somebody to let them know that the spot fire was there. Being RFS we weren’t allowed to attend it! You're not supposed to attend on the other side of the border. REBEL. What a word. ❌ Trigger warning. Today was a challenging day towards the end. A current of transparency drifted us from stories of inspiring human hearts to those who took their own lives after Black Summer. A topic that never gets easier to hear. But one that needs to be spoken about more often than not. To rebel means to go against. I pray society would rebel against the shame attached to this very topic. Rebel against pretending everything is ok. Rebel against comparison and competition. Rebel against bullying and judgment. Rebel against segregation and codependency. Jesus was a rebel. He rebelled against societal norms and made it cool to serve. To love. To nurture. To heal. He changed my life 14 years ago and took me from dark places no human should want to go, to places of freedom and beauty. If He can do it for me, He will do it for you. If you are challenged in this very area reach out. Find someone you trust and share your heart. Emma was instrumental in pulling together an important project after the fires teaching women chainsaw skills. “Many women feared for their lives during the fires. But these women now are empowered. Just finished 12 weeks of scripting a story that is now embedded on my heart… a collaboration of over fifty powerful voices coming together to share the fractures still very present in their world, yet the power in unity to rebuilt HOPE. When I read history, I often wonder ‘whose voice is missing’ and why? And then pray for our team to be somehow used, even ever so slightly, as a pencil to fill the gap. Sometimes it’s gruelling and lonely and dark and feelings of insignificance creep in, other times it’s liberating, rewarding and cup filling. But there is also GRACE. So much grace. And, I feel forever blessed to co-labour with the gifts of @chicojohnsonmusic @filmharvs__ & @kristyharvs in this writing process, as each carry a heavy but equally important role.
