Dealing with Difficult Coworkers? You Got This! Swipe for Laugh & Read for Knowledge! Let's be honest, even the best workplaces have them, those people who push our buttons. But don't stress! Here are 3 ways to handle a coworker who might be...less than an idiot at work: ✅ Have a Calm Conversation (if possible): Address the issue directly, but kindly. Focus on the behavior, not the person. ✅ Document & Seek Support (for trickier situations): Keep a record of interactions and talk to a trusted colleague, manager, or HR. ✅ Disengage When Needed (sometimes self-care is key): Pick your battles and limit contact if possible. Maintain professionalism, but prioritize your own well-being. Remember, you can't control others, but you can control your reaction. #difficultcolleagues #workplacetips #professionaldevelopment

When you have conflict in your business, ignoring it is not the route to take. Ignoring a small issue only means that it will potentially continue to brew below the surface, eventually exploding. Steps to take when managing workplace conflict: 1. Don’t ignore the problem. 2. Do address the problem as soon as you hear about it. Legal regulations are surrounding how and when issues such as harassment and bullying must be addressed. 3. Don’t assume. You are not the judge and jury, it is important to know the legal requirements when working with employees and managing their concerns. 4. Provide an alternative for your employees to speak with someone other than yourself. This allows them to feel safe and comfortable, at the same time providing you, the owner or manager, with a buffer and a major issue that can occur from mismanagement of problems that arise. #hrtip #hrcapetown #thecarnivoreza #conflict #business #smallissues #bigproblems #dontignore #harassment #bullying #dontassume #listen #feelsafe #workplaceconflict #conflictsolution #workplacedynamics #communicationissues #teamworktroubles #professionaldiscord #conflictresolution #workplacerelations #conflictmanagement #stressatwork #toxicworkenvironment #mediation #difficultcolleagues #workplaceetiquette #workplacechallenges #procusiveconversation #conflictavoidance

Dealing with difficult colleagues at work? Or worse...haters?! 🤬 No one loves haters, or seeks them out. But they come with the territory of leadership. Whether it's... ❌ the guy who undermines ALL your BEST ideas ❌ the colleague who badmouths your work (or YOU!) ❌ the person you NEED to collaborate with who is icing you out People who tell you "ignore them!" or "they're probably just jealous" mean well. That may have worked in the school yard, but that shit does NOT work at work. 💯 Worse, it can set up a cycle of anxiety and self-sabotage if you've been socialized to believe that everyone NEEDS to like you in order for you to be a leader. So, it's time for some real talk about haters at work, and how to deal with them. 🔥Tune into this week's episode of The Mental Offload podcast to learn the tools you need to get ahead in a biased world. 🔥 #womenwholead #difficultcolleagues #workingmomsrock #feministleadership #mentaloffload #newpodcastepisode

As psychologists, we are no strangers to conflict. Whether it's dealing with difficult clients or navigating workplace disagreements with colleagues, conflict is a common part of our professional lives. In this post, I want to focus on the latter and provide some strategies that can help us deal with difficult colleagues and workplace conflicts. First and foremost, it's important to address the issue directly and in a timely manner. Ignoring the issue or hoping it will go away on its own can lead to increased tension and further escalation of the conflict. Instead, schedule a meeting with your colleague to discuss the issue and find common ground. By addressing the issue directly, you can work towards a resolution and prevent the conflict from festering. . . . . #conflict #workplaceconflicts #difficultcolleagues #psychologist

How do you deal with difficult colleagues? 5 tips that have helped me along the way: ✨Be assertive, address the issue if needs be and when it comes to work, be clear on your role and what they need to deliver and make sure that’s communicated ✨Set boundaries with the individual and don’t waiver, let them know there are certain things you are not going to do or allow ✨Limit interaction where possible, if you do need to interact with them then you determine when you would like to interact (time of day) and how ✨Always act according to your values, sometimes when people are acting off, it’s easy to follow suit. Be sure to always treat the person in line with your values ✨Don’t involve others, unless it’s HR or maybe a trusted advisor or friend, nobody else needs to be involved, office politics and drama can get messy and make your work day long and stressful #officepolitics #careertips #careeradvice #careercoaching #difficultcolleagues #workfriends #careercoach #careergoals #careergrowth

From the blog at LouiseCarnachan.com "What's Your Next Hero's Journey?" I wondered if writing and publishing Work Jerks: How to Cope with Difficult Bosses and Colleagues could be considered a hero’s journey. All epics start with answering the call then embarking on the journey. The hero meets challenges (like finding a publisher), faces adversaries (aka unhelpful critique), and finds allies (oh, there were so many people who helped!). A turning point in the story is when the hero faces the biggest challenge of all. For me this was self-generated fear, thoughts like, “Who are you to give advice?” and “You risk being trashed on social media by those who have seen you at your worst.” These thoughts do not inspire confidence. Then resolution occurs (I talked myself down), and the hero learns to exist in an alien world. For me, that’s being a published author and all that entails. The final steps are a reward (the book is in print!) and the return to “normal” life— albeit as a changed person. So, I had been on a hero’s journey after all. And life has been a little mundane since. Can you relate to this experience? "My colleague is just a F*&CKING nightmare!!!" (1/3) 🤔 How often do you have this thought? Sometimes you're so astounded by your colleague's behaviour that the thought you had ACTUALLY comes out of your mouth, and another colleague finds out exactly what you think of that "nightmare colleague". And what's more, they nod in agreement. Yes, they're a nightmare colleague. You think to yourself: "Isn't it just so obvious what they need to do?" And, frankly, you're too busy to figure out how to fix it. ➡️ So what do you do? Well before turning to what you can do, here's one thing you're probably getting wrong. 🗣 You rush to respond. 📢 🤔 Do you notice yourself doing this? I’m not thinking that this post will go viral. It’s not a popular message. But it’s so true. When we know this, like really know this, emotional reactions from people make sense. 🌸 The parent who has an emotional reaction aimed at you. 🌸 The colleague who won’t hear you or your ideas. 🌸 The admin who may not speak kindly. When wounds are left to fester, the natural reaction is overcompensation. 🌸 The parent who didn’t do well at school and is deep down inside still angry about it. 🌸The colleague who was told that weren’t effective, so now they will prove to the world that what they do works. 🌸The admin who was burned in a moment of vulnerability and now will make sure they have the power. These are stories of people. People are messy and complicated- but so are you. And so am I. So give grace. Grace to the parents of your classroom. Grace to your students. Grace to your colleagues and admin. Grace to yourself. Want more? Like what you’re engaging with? You can’t avoid office politics. We wish we could promise you that you’d never have to deal with them in your career, but unfortunately, it is part and parcel of working in the corporate world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You might be wondering what “office politics” really means, and you wouldn’t be the first to ponder such a question. Office politics refers to the underlying and often unspoken social nuances to an organization. It includes navigating certain internal networks, groups and hierarchy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There are often unspoken do’s and don'ts and individuals of influence that aren’t necessarily the leaders of the organization. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Don’t worry, your fairy job mothers are here to give you insights on office politics and how to navigate them! Whether you lead a team, or you are part of team, working with a colleague who seems to constantly be opposed to any kind of change is TOUGH! 😭😭🤦‍♀️ Here are some tips for you to consider as to how you can positively move things forward and continue to drive change in your team or your Company: 1) Always remember the WIFM principle to change! 2) Lend an ear and try to understand what is going on for them. 3) Now..... Ask them for a positive contribution. 4) Don't take it personally.... It is not about you. 5) Call it out if you feel you can. 6) Be responsible for your reaction - that is within your control. 7) Remove yourself temporarily if you need to. Want more info on each of the tips above and how to get old-minded colleagues ready for future focussed changes? Read my latest article - Link is in the bio, my friend. You got this! 🙏🙏

We all know those people. In fact, for most of us we have probably worked with, or currently work with them. You know the ones. The ones that constantly seem to resist any new idea, thought, or proposal for change. When asked why, their response is often along the lines of “We tried that 10 years ago and it didn’t work”, or “People won’t like that” etc. These people are in every Organisation. They can be toxic and negatively impact the wider workforce trying to drive positive change within the business if not dealt with constructively. But, I also know this. Resistance to change almost always comes from fear and insecurity. A lack of understanding as to what the change means for them, and how it might impact them. Therefore, it is easier to retreat to safety. To what they know and are comfortable with. To push back. To oppose. To resist. If you are working with colleagues currently, and it feels like every new idea, opinion, or thought is opposed, check out my latest blog for how to handle them! Link is the bio. You can thank me later. 🙏🙏🙏

How do I deliver 100% at work when I am surrounded by unsupportive and difficult colleagues. This thought played on repeat in my mind. Every. Single. Day. I was thrown into situations that puzzled me and I ended up loathing myself. It took me a long time to overcome these challenges. 5. Things at work have suddenly got worse for me in the past few weeks. What can I do? . . . It depends on what has changed. If your work conditions – such as hours of work, rate of pay, amount of benefits – have changed to your disadvantage without you receiving anything in return, you likely have grounds to pursue a claim for “constructive dismissal”. However, proceed cautiously, since your employer likely won’t reach the same conclusion. Therefore, you should take no action until you have spoken to us at 416-383-0550. If you are being treated badly by a new co-worker or manager, your best course of action is to speak to your boss.  If your boss is the source of the problem, speak to the boss of your boss.  Put your concerns in writing if necessary.  Be persistent, but always polite. Usually, employers will take action to resolve the problem.  If not, or if the employer’s action is inadequate, give us a call. Stay safe, be wise, and take care of yourself. . . . #coronavirus #covid19 #employmentlawyers #employmentlaw #legalhelp #legaladvice #dukeheightsbia #legaladviceoftheday #troubleatwork #workingparents #difficultbosses #difficultboss #difficultcolleague #difficultcolleagues #workingremotely #constructivedismissal #healthyworkenvironment #employeerights #fightingcovid19together

🍰SH: SUBMISSIVE-HOSTILE, the Clark Kent of the group, silent or systematically putting themselves down, making clear how unworthy and unimportant they are. = Looking for a dominant-hostile team member to express how they are feeling inside for them. ☹️ These behaviours are expressed by shy group members that don’t feel happy in the group or don’t agree with the general discussion and decision, but do not feel entitled to express this clearly. Moreover, they do not feel that they actually have a valuable contribution to make to better the situation. ⚡ This type of negative energy and passive aggressive presence can often cause resentment in other group members and cause them to say things like “Then why don’t you make a suggestion/ do something” to which the answer will likely be something like “Because there is really nothing I can do”. 😩 In extreme form, a SH group member will blame themselves for the failures of the group, and isolate themselves with the only exceptions being self-denigration or complaining. ❓Do you recognize these behaviours in yourself? Can you see how these behaviours can provoke negative responses from otherwise friendly group members? What could be a positive effect of having a complaining member in the group? ❗Time to reflect 🙌 ❤️ #psychology #groupdynamics #teamwork #conflict #teamdynamics #teampsychology #selfawareness #learyscircle #difficultcolleagues #silentgroupmembers
