In the middle of production for my next event in Ft Washita, Durant OK. A lot of new envelopes (with paper inside for the weight), some stamps ( pre-cut and on adhesive paper), some dental cream boxes and more to come. I will propose some plain envelopes and stamps to the troops during the event and offer a fully functioning APO to all allied units present. Also I will let kids write some basil and mail it to them! Can’t wait September 16th-18th to arrive!! . . . #ww#ww2 #chriswwiireenactment #reenactorlife #livinghistory #apo #wwiireproduction #fortwashitaoklahoma #reenactment #reenactmentww2 #history #wwiimailcall #ww2mail #secondworldwar #reconstitutionww2 #reconstitution #wwiistamps

Photos from the Fort Washita annual spring Rendezvous last weekend. I first attended this event in 2011, and today I owe my love of history to it. Fort Washita is the former United States military post and National Historic Landmark located in Durant, Oklahoma. Established in 1842 by General Zachary Taylor to protect citizens of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations from the Plains Indians it was later abandoned by Federal forces at the beginning of the American Civil War. Confederate troops held the post until the end of the war when they burned the remaining structures. It was never reoccupied by the United States military. After years in private hands the Oklahoma Historical Society bought the fort grounds in 1962 and restored the site. #fortwashita #historicsite #fortwashitaoklahoma #oklahoma #oklahomahistory #history #civilwar #civilwarhistory #furtrade #rendezvous #livinghistory #1840s #1840slivinghistory #discoveryokohama #durantok #chickasawnation #5civilizedtribes

Fort Washita has a complicated history with threads running through the Chickasaw Nation, the California Gold Rush, the Civil War, and now is supposedly haunted by a ghost. * * * #fortwashitahistoricsite #fortwashitaghoststories #fortwashitaoklahoma #fortwashitamuseum

Ft. Washita - South Eastern Oklahoma - A beautiful day to explore in my own backyard! Facinating history! Did you know Civil War Battles were fought in Oklahoma?? I always think of Gettysburg, etc., when I think of Civil War Battles. I learned a few new things today. Come out, bring the family! Free admission (they do gratefully accept donations) Not a bad way to spend a few hours getting exercise, fresh air and gaining some knowledge about the history of this beautiful state I call home 🥰 Check out the Ft. Fort Washita was built in 1842 as the southwestern-most military post of the United States. The mission of Fort Washita was to maintain peace for the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations within their new lands, pursuant to treaty obligations. There were many outside threats to the new home of the Chickasaw people, including attacks by Republic of Texas militia, interference by unscrupulous intruders, constant raids by Plains tribes, the presence of traders and trappers, and unsettled scores with some of the Plains tribes due to disputes concerning hunting grounds in the Homeland. Fort Washita operated as a United States military post until the start of the Civil War in 1861. It was then occupied by Confederate forces through 1865. The fort was almost entirely destroyed by the Confederates as they fled at the end of the Civil War. . After the war, the fort was granted to the Chickasaw Nation and later the Dawes Commission allotted the fort and surrounding land to the Charles and Abbie Davis Colbert family. . The Oklahoma Historical Society acquired Fort Washita in 1962 and restored it as a historic site and museum. In 2016, the Chickasaw Nation partnered with the Oklahoma Historical Society to assume responsibility and management of Fort Washita. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is designed as a National Historic Landmark. . Visitors to Fort Washita can tour restored structures, witness Civil War reenactments and take part in the yearly Fur Trade Era Rendezvous to experience what life was like before and during the Civil War. Other events throughout the year include storytelling, outdoor movies and special seasonal and holiday events that the whole family can enjoy. . #FortWashita #FortWashitaOklahoma #Oklahoma #OklahomaHistory #History

Did a little exploring at Fort Washita today. I have so many more photos. It was really neat reading about it and walking around the ruins. Apparently, after the War Between the States ended, the “locals” burned most of it because they were afraid of outlaws and Ne’er do wells using it for a hideout. This was the first confederate cemetery I’ve ever been to. #roadtrip #exploringoklahoma #abandonedplaces #fortwashitaoklahoma #csacemetary #confederatestatesofamerica
