Alivia Chambers was blacklisted in 1952, her contract with 20th Century Fox terminated under duress. Through a contact in Hollywood, writer Whitney Ellsworth, she was able to find work as Phyllis Coates’ stunt double during the first season of “The Adventures of Superman.” The television serial was under an independent studio, and Chambers’ blacklisting was overlooked. Conflicts with producer Robert Maxwell, however, caused Chambers to leave the serial at the end of the first season, the same time Coates left… to be replaced by Noel Neill. Ironically, George Reeves died just four weeks before Chambers. Superman was Chambers’ final gig in show business. With the exception of a single guest appearance as herself on the Betty White Show in 1954, Alivia Chambers never got in front of a movie or TV camera ever again. #georgereeves #phylliscoates #superman #loislane #theadventuresofsuperman

Red-haired and blue-eyed Evelyn Scott (born April 20, 1915) is perhaps best remembered as the tough-talking saloon keeper Ada Jacks in the TV soap opera “Peyton Place” which was based on the 1957 film; she joined the show in 1965 and stayed until 1969. • Later, she reprised the role on the TV series reboot “Return to Peyton Place” (1972-1974), and joined series regulars, including Dorothy Malone as Constance Carson, for the 1985 television movie “Peyton Place: The Next Generation”. • Away from the screen and she started out as California’s first female disc jockey, spinning records for KMPC’s early morning “Wake-Up” show and then became a singing DJ on KHJ’s similar “Rise and Shine” morning program. • She started her acting career in local theatre groups, including the Stage Society, West Coast Theater, Civic Playhouse and Pasadena Playhouse (she joined George Reeves and Paula Raymond in “Nightshade” (1953), by Ken Englund and Sidney Field). • Her film career began around the same time, with small supporting roles in the moody Film-Noir “Wicked Woman” (1953), with Beverly Michaels and Richard Egan; as Molly Prentiss in the 1957 horror “Back from the Dead”, starring Peggy Castle, Arthur Franz, and Marsha Hunt for the low-budget Regal Films; “The Green-Eyed Blonde” (also 1957), penned by the blacklisted ‘Hollywood 10’ Dalton Trumbo; and “I Want to Live!”, with a stellar performance from Susan Hayward as prostitute Barbara Graham, who sentenced to death for murder, tries everything to plead her innocence. • Away from “Peyton Place”, she also appeared on such popular TV shows as “Bonanza”, “Gunsmoke”, “The Joey Bishop Show”, and “Perry Mason”. • Evelyn worked tirelessly for charitable causes. For many years, she was an active board member of Portals House Inc., a center to support people with mental health issues. She also was a fund-raiser and major supporter of OPICA Adult Day Care, offering support to vulnerable senior citizens. • Evelyn Scott’s first marriage was to the blacklisted screenwriter Gene Stone; her second to importer Urban S. Hirsch Jr. in 1961, lasted until her death in January 2002, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles. She was 86. • •

Las páginas de este tomo inicial fueron el escenario del nacimiento de Superman, un personaje que estaría destinado a la grandeza, por su historia de origen y sus notables simbolismos. La fecha en la primera portada se lee “Junio”, pero esto resultó ser una táctica de marketing para que los dueños de puestos de revistas se animen a dejar durante más tiempo el tomo en los estantes, una técnica que demostró ser exitosa. 🦸‍♂️Superman fue adaptado en decenas de oportunidades, desde formatos radiales, hasta películas live action y series animadas.
